RE: NitroPlanes 69

RE: NitroPlanes 69

Capt'n Not sure if you were looking to by my Yak but if so I intend to hang on to it. It is a beautiful scale model of a Yak 54. I was spoiled by the flight characteristics of the QQ version but...

RE: NitroPlanes 69

Well I never got the airplane I ordered on Ebay. Luckily I used pay pal. Anyway I ended up buying an Aeroworks Yak 90/120 size. No problems getting it together. Very well made and good quality...

RE: NitroPlanes 69

I checked Ebay and found five of the 69 inch yaks. Not sure if they were the same as the one I had but looked close enough to order. I only ordered one and by the time I finished messing around...

RE: NitroPlanes 69

I had the same problem with my wing tube. I ended up buying a length of wood dowel at the hardware store that fit into the tube. To take up the excess space between the dowel and tube I wrapped the...

RE: NitroPlanes 69

Well I had a bad day at the dry lake this AM. My QQ Yak 69" knock off had one of the wing attach screws come loose and I lost control of the airplane. I had just come out of a hover at about 50...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

Ok just lost everything I wrote. I will keep this simple. There is a big difference in the geometry of the supplied bell crank depending on how you mount it. I would experiment with that a little...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

You are right, they are uneven. The first thing I would try is turning your bell crank around 180 degrees and see how that works. The cable attatch points are not in line with the center pivot so...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

I was not impressed with the hardware in this kit. The rod end bearings are crap. When I put my model together I found the bores were all different. Some were so loose you could slide the end right...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

Thanks for the warning. My wings fit up snug to the fuselage. When I first put it together I had a little trouble getting it to fit but it may have been the locating pins.

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

I used the Hitec HS5645MG. I had not planned on using bigger servos but after reading the instructions I decided to play it safe. After bending the wing tube I started to think maybe stronger...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

Your OK. Don't know what those big bolts were for. My kit used the small ones for the canopy and the wings.

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

Depends on what you are used to and your skill level. I am used to scale warbirds which have their own set of issues. As far as the Yak I am not used to how quick it responds to control inputs or...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

Make sure you program in the expo also. Things happen really fast in flight with this model. I didn't mention it befor but I lost the glow plug and dead sticked it in downrange today. A hard...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

Yep. Typical. Wouldn't want to be a first timer with this model. I checked Nitro and they are already sold out. As far as the Yak 69 goes I got a few flights in today without harming her.

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

I didn't bother measuring mine. This airplane is a handful on low rate. I wouldn't worry about a few mm. Don't forget this model is a knockoff of the QQ model. The instructions and specs you are...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

Let us know how that tube works. I tried a 3/4 inch alum. tube and it was too loose. I will be flying my Yak this morning. Will see how the reinforced tube does.

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

Don't sweat it I was missing a couple when I opened the box and knocked out a few more during assembly. Not sure what they are there for but with the Pitts muff on I get no oil contamination...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

Ok look at the picture I posted of the wing root and you will see where the screw goes that holds the wing on. The hole with the nut is visible right below the dot I made for the forward cg limit(...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

I agree, that is the first time I have seen CA used for major assemblies. I used a dab of CA to fix the horizontal in position but then followed up with a bead of six minute epoxy around everything....

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

As I mentioned earlier the cg on my plane right now is slightly behind the center of the wing tube which technically is too far aft. Even there it seems to fly fine. Why don't you dig the manual out...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

Here are a couple of pics for you to look at. Remember I didn't use QQ's method. These locations are based on the standard cg numbers of 25% and 33% of mac. Measured from the leading edge. 25% is...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

Running a string across works. I didn't have the wings on the airplane tonight so the only way to transfer the location was with a square. This is the trouble with forums, while trying to keep...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

I noticed in your signature that all the models you listed were QQ except for the H9. Since the Yak I put together was using the QQ plans I can see why you are familiar with this method. However...

RE: NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 - anyone built one ?

OK I have spent a few hours boning up on locating the Mean Aerodynamic Chord of a tapered wing. I will include a couple of links so you can do the same if you want The instructions that came with...
