RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

The SPAD 3D is a novel and simple design. It is good as a torque roll trainer, for harrier practice and does excellent flat spins. However its lack of side area means it will not knife edge or do...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

beats the airline anyday!

There's always someone who drives farther than me.

These are the best flyers on the planet. If that's not worth the drive, what is?

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

We will have some kits at Nashbro. Stop by Fuelman's tent if you are there.

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

We had the first two prototypes flying at Nashbro last fall but they were overbuilt and actually more fragile than the latest version. They had Saito 82s and were 5 lb 3 oz (sort of porky). Jeremy...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

I wouldn't worry aboutl lockout on this plane. It's not all that demanding -- especially considering the highly couter balanced fullyflying control surfaces (require very little servo power with big...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

Hi Mike,

For the Saitos, we love the plastic scimitar 13x6 props and that's what we supply in the DX kits.

Does your dealer sell ANY master airscrew props? If so, he can get the scimitar...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

When did you buy the kit? We've been putting two size sheets in all the kits for about a year now, and one of the sheets has a sticker on it which says to use it on the fuselage (so you won't use it...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

Balsa rite is fine on both lexan and EPP. Nothing attacks EPP except too much heat when covering.

We've tried:

Acetone
Dope
Mineral Spirits
Battery acid
Gasoline
Glo Fuel

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

Yea, don't worry about it. If you start adding stuff, it will get heavy, fly badly and actually will most likely get weaker than the original design.

The new ones don't flutter if you follow...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

You're talking about the ailerons, right? If you have the Hitec servos, use the big red plastic ones. Anything with about 1 inch distance from screw hole to thread hole will work.

You can...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

That's great news Roboto. Glad you like the plane. Pavement isn't the best surface to practice above, as you know.

Hey Wess, how have you been this summer? Any biplane news? We plan to make...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

Elliot,

If you do NOT want to fly 3D, you can also reduce the control throws by using holes that are further away from the axle pivot points on the rudder and elevator. This will give you less...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

Note 1: It's always a good idea to use counterbalances

Note 2: it's VERY important that the elevator moves freely! Find the source of the binding and fix it. First disconnect the clevises,...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

That video is a riot! I think you scared your girlfriend.

We've seen that happen many times. A good trick is to bring a BIG can of WD40 to the field and an old toothbrush for cleaning the...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

Hey Rix, your gear are on backwards!

And yep, if you want to go fast, you need the balances. At least you got the durability test out of the way early.

It does look sharp though.

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

I've not used thos Hitec 425's, but the specs look good enough. Basically any "standard" servo will work well. The full flying stab and rudder mean some of the air actually helps the control...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

Actually, I've not really ever seen ANY 40 size profile plane do a stunning stop in your face WALL, that does not also gain altitude. My 4D tail does do a little "flipper" move as it tries to climb...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

MSP,

If you notice you need right rudder trim, or up/down elevator, in a hover (not harrier, but a true Torque roll) they you can bend the mounts slightly to play with thrust angles. You'll...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

I agree, Brian's a great guy. I met him down in Nashville.

I normally pick up Nitro Scent at my LHS, but wanted vanilla, which for some reason was never available at my LHS. Brian had some on...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

The 5" mark is a good starting point for all the moves it can do. Just tie some washers or tire weights to the tail and see how you like it first. Then move the engine back.

I find rolling...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

If you need down elevator for inverted, you're still a hair nose heavy. I like mine to be VERY neutral, but I end up with a twitchy elevator that takes getting used to. Expo at 50% helps a lot...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

Hey, great looking bird Gary. That's the first "Splash" 4D I've seen. Is that a yellow fuel tank?

Flyboy, I'm not sure what to say about your motor at this point. It still sounds like a...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

Flyboy,

Are there any signs of the motor getting lean? (black oil residue, hot smell, change in exhaust sound)?

Be sure your tank doesn't foam. That muffler will add at least 700 RPM, and...

RE: Tuff Flight's 4D

Jerry,

If you're doing the scale profile, put the battery in the front. The weight of the added corplast in the tail is more important to offset than the engine size.
