RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

I used a Scorpion 3020-12 in mine. Very comparable power to the Eflite Power 32, lighter weight, a little less expensive. Both are good choices. Sorry you had bad luck with your Turnigy - they are...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

I suspect you have a bad motor with bad bearings - not uncommon with smaller Turnigy motors sorry to say. I just sent one back with a similar problem - bearings lock up under load, but the motor...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Yes, mine was trashed about the time they stopped being for sale too. I love this plane.

My only cautionary tale would be to suggest that, unless you are an absolute ace at landing very...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

You might consider using a Scorpion outrunner e.g. the Scorpion SII-3020-780. It will give you about 800 watts on 4S with a 14x7 prop, costs $70 and weighs 5.8 ounces, i.e. 2.8 ounces LESS than a...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

I mounted mine as far forward as possible under the nose - in fact I had to remove the covering there to get to it afterwards.

And, yes - I did need to use an extension on the battery side. ...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Sorry, but I meant that I positioned the motor as far forward as possible to help with the cg - it wasn't a matter of getting the prop to clear the cowl (no issue there), but to get the motor as far...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Mine had a Scorpion 3020-12 weighing 5.5 ounces, and a Chinese 80A ESC weighing 2.6 ounces. I used spacers to jack the engine as far forward as possible without fowling the cowl, and mounted the ESC...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Horrors! During a nose down power loop with ailerons full right and rudder full left one of the battery leads came off at the Dean's plug - can't imagine why it did it at that exact point in time....

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Yes - I sealed my ailerons with Blenderm, and tend to avoid diving or sustained full throttle horizontally. I like it slow - 13x4 prop and an 800 watt motor, all-I-can-get on control surface...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Maybe the 'new' Eratix will actually be 54" (instead of really 52".) Maybe it will have enough magnets in the canopy. Maybe the firewall will be a bit tougher. Maybe the LG mounting area will be a...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

So, I was flying my Eratix, trying to get good at tail-over-nose loops under power when battery escaped from its velcro, left the airframe after pushing off the canopy - leaving me upside-down in a...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Well, I just had exactly the same problem. In checking over my plane after an incident (see separate post), I realized there was some vertical movement in the prop. Examination shows that the...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Really? Or is it just out of stock currently? I hope so. Mine is currently doing fine, but I'm only one mistake from wanting a replacement!

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

At some time you might want to try a 13x4 - larger diameter will blow air over the wings better, lower pitch will avoid excess speed.  I wish they made a 14x4E prop!!

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Good luck with the maiden!!

If I can make a quick comment about your setup, I would say that you have chosen a rather heavy motor, and very heavy batteries. Perhaps you could go to your 3S packs...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Mine uses abot 275-290 mah per minutes of a 4S pack (usually 3000-3600mah packs.) This is fairly hard flying, and it would use much less just flying around. So, anyway, I get about 10-12 minutes per...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Well, I say go for it. I think you can fly around with 600 watts very nicely. My Eratix originally built at 49 ounces, including a Chinese 80A ESC, a Socrpion 3020-12 outrunner, 13x4 prop, AR6200...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

I think you were just unlucky, and the firewall ply was bad. An extra ounce (!!) of ply and glue should provide a firmer footing.

Incidentally, a guy at my club bought an Eratix, and immediately...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

My canopy also blew off within the first couple of flights (older design, one magnet like yours) - but I was lucky enough to recover it. I put an extra magnet in the recess above the first one, and...

What motor and prop are you using with the 3S batteries?

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Well, my Eratix has managed a few flights in between the dismal weather. I managed to bend the gear once on landing, but no damage, perhaps because I had reinforced the gear mounting area with...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Woodie - I ran the Eratix in my garage last night using two props not included in the factory specs. The battery was a 4S TP 3850 V2, the motor is a Scorpion 3020-12, ESC is a Mystery 80A, and here...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Woodie - Here are the figures from Scorpion. As you can see, you can reasonably get 600 watts from a 3S if you can handle 60+A, and a 4S with an 11x5.5 takes you to FunkyTown (800 watts - i.e. 200...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Woodie - Biggest drawbacks to its first flight are:

1) Snow and hideously irritating cold weather.
2) CG - since last night I am thinking of ways to get the cg forward - the 3 ounce weight...

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club

Very interesting stuff! Like you, I have set my ailerons to be as symmetrical to the wing as possible - thinking being that it will make inverted flight as similar to normal as possible.

I've...
