RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

I have been using a balsa - CF - balsa sandwich for many years on my funfly planes... The CF laminated spars together with good webbing between the spars make for a very strong wing.

For real...

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

I don't know what american coke cans are made from, but over here they're steel... it's great stuff, I use it quite a bit on planes... but not for head shims.

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

Dihedral=stability... do you need stability at 200 mph...? If you can't control a plane at that speed, you should not be thinking about dihedral.... you don"t need dihedral... a properly trimmed...

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

Somewhere along this thread I've seen a side pic of the fuse... it looks OK there... the AFT end of the fuse is pretty long...

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

DS,

Do you happen to know a source for "integral" spinners for the MVVS GRRT/GFRT engines? If so, what diameters do they have?

By "integral", I mean those spinners that mount straight onto...

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

I think it will hold... providing you were able to keep the gaps small... the smaller the better.

Copper brazing is VERY strong also. At my former job I regularly had to test copper brazed...

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

Nice work! Keep it up!

Combatpigg...

I hope you were kidding with the aluminum spar... right?

An 1/8" ply spar will be plenty IMO... doesn't even have to run full span... and you could make some lightening holes...

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

Using an airfoil shape for the fuse is the way to go IMO... even a simple NACA shape will be less draggier than a straight taper starting at the engine.

It may be a good idea to position the...

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

Way to go Combatpigg! This is what this forum is about... [sm=thumbup.gif]

Now about that K&B engine... look at it this way: if you manage to build a plane that moves on that engine, you can...
