RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

Longrifle,
It looks like my son, AJ, will be in RC the first week of November.
He was fortunate enough to get a good job with Northrop Grumman,
and has already checked out Who's Hobbies. ;-)...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

Talked to my son, AJ, last night, and he and his family will be in Billings the weekend of Sept 25 - 26.
It will be nice to see them again, as it has been awhile.
We have a day planned to get in...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

That sounds great.
I talked to AJ today, and he is excited about his move to RC. Michelle is already in RC with her new school administration job.
AJ is still in KC getting the house ready to...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

Finally got a chance to fly the SD again last weekend.
Got lucky the throttle servo failed at wide open throttle - fortunately the rest of them kept working. (whew)
The bladder tank worked...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

As I understand it __ the Macs muffler is just that __ a muffler. It has little or no tuning effect.
On the other hand the Jett is a tuned device that will significantly increase the power of...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

We MUST always tinker!!! Never know what you may find out. [8D]
If you would, try the 9-7.5 - then the 10-6 and see if you see any difference.
I am sure it is lower altitude in Fresno than...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

I tried the 9X7.5 APC and it worked close to the 10X6. If there was any difference it wasn't much.
It will be interesting how it works for you at lower altitude.

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

Master of Speed, ;)
Good to hear the first flight went good. I started with a 9-8 APC, @ around 2,000 off peak, for my first flights which also worked out pretty good for break in. I have about...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

I would love to have you visit MT, and we will set up some poles to see if the 10-8 will out run the Jett with a 10-6.
Should be interesting.
As my pylon racing son, AJ, says "Bring it on". :D

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

I enjoy all this bench racing. ;) Sure wish I could travel to WI for the big race.
Maybe you fellas should come to MT. There is some beautiful scenery here, and no noise restrictions at our...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

I took some time yesterday and got a few more flights on the SD. What a sweet plane.
I flew some of the old .60 pattern maneuvers, and it nails them - pilot could use a little practice.

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

As I read about all the mods to the Sundowner - I wonder if it is all necessary. I built mine as it came - no mods - and it works just fine. With the Jett .56 I have brought it out of a split S -...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

The snow finally melted enough to get the field and do a little prop testing with the .56LX.
I tried 3 props all APC a 9-8, 10-6, and a pylon 8.75-9W. The pylon prop DIDN'T work at all about...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

That is interesting I tried to mount the .56LX at 90 degrees, and it was obvious that I would have to take out too much material to clear the muffler. If you look close you can see that the...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

I cut the bottom hole out of mine, and it works good. With the .56LX set rich it is a performer, and the fuse does not overheat. I have landed the plane after a fairly long flight, and immediately...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

I got in a few flights yesterday the Jett is making some good power!
The last flight I set the motor 13 to 1400 off peak 16,600 to 16700 rpm with the 9-8 APC, so I haven't leaned on it yet.

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

Got in 5 flights today!!! [8D]
I added 6oz of oil to my fuel - as Dub suggested.
I opened the needle 5 turns and fired it up. At full throttle it was turning around 16,000 with an APC 9-8. ...

RE: Sundowner 50 Arf

I am using a Tettra bladder tank that I purchased from Central Hobbies here in Billings, MT.
I took the fuse to the store to make sure the tank would fit, which was handy.
I am fortunate to live...

OK
If you haven't already - check out jettengineering.com and check out Mike Helsel's Sundowner. I basically copied what he did.
As you can see - I have a T in the line from the tank to the...
