In those photos the gearing was 19/86 from when it used to be a Stampede. Now I'm using 20/86.

I have a set of Talon tires that came with the Stampede. The rear ones are very worn out but not bald...

The width between the wheels is the same. But the length from the front wheels to the rear wheels is a little longer on the Rustler.

Ya if I have this correct you'll need these:

Stampede chassis
Stampede skid plates
Stampede battery hold down(it's a little longer than the Rustler one)
59mm linkages to replace the 61mm ones...

If I was in that situation I'd get the VXL. Then I'd have a Rustler I can run right away. To fix up the XL-5 in your first option would cost me as much anyways. I'm not sure how much the EZRun set up...

At Gyro Hobbies here they're converting an E-Revo to Mamba brushless and they have M2K's on it. Looks sick just looking at it on the counter. They'll obviously have fun with that.
