"Notchy" wont free up if it does you have damaged the magnets
Notchy is an interaction of magnets and iron laminations in the motor when there is no power in it

Has anyone done RADAR yet?

The stiffness in the driveline is symptomatic of the magnets and iron in the stator interacting. It is meaningless in terms of the actual performance of the motor. All neo magnets are very powerful....
