RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

This plane flies best with the engine in the recommended range and a 4-stroke 61 is fine.

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

My experience was the opposite. It was a pretty easy build with plenty of room for installation. Like others, I had to stick the Rx battery down the tail. I did add some more glue to some of the...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Comgratulations! I hope you get many eyars out of the plane. It's strange when you sell a plane - you start to miss it, but I know you'll get much more use that I ever would. How much flap do you use...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

My Pawnee (OS .46) is also fine in the wind with plenty of power, and one of the easiest landing planes I have. I'm wondering if you have CoG problems. Too far back and it can be fine under good...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

For the start, as stated by lear, just put your finger over the exhaust, with throttle wide open, and spin the prop until fuel spits out of the open carby. Close down and connect the glow stater and...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Yes, good effort on the cowling. I always get impatient and, despite my intentions to apply patience, templates and to start small, I always end up hacking away. The pawnee cowling was good, because...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

To Chris. Did you use Loktite on your wheel screw? The slightest splash/sniff onto plastic will cause the plastic to crumble/distengrate? I once went through 4 wheel pants before realising my problem.

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Any angle is fine and won't affect the running of the engine. The carby has a vibrating membrane which acts as a pump, regulating the fuel, meaning that it will run fine at any angle. Just remember...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Yes, mine (the Pawnee) came with a metal motor mount. As you note, you need it for heat dissapation and also to connect the ignition earth. The Saito should fit on this mount. You might need to drill...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

I  think the 0.82 would be better. The plane's personality really shines at 'crop dusting type manouveres, stall turns, fast aerollin turns and steady. low altitude tracking. In my opinion, the plane...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

I have an OS 0.46 in mine and find performance is fine. I think I prefer more scalish performance, but the plane will easily do all acrobatics. I think about half throttle on an 0.46 would probably...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

The Piper Pawnee is fine with the Saito FG-14 or ant gas engine around 15cc. The cowling space is huge and the extra weight will not stress the plane. There is a guy with a RFGC 15cc gas 2-stroke who...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

I think the Saito FG-14 gas engine would be a good choice for this plane. There is plenty of room and I think it could be balanced out neutral with no need for tail weight. I'm tempted, but have mine...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Thanks for the advice on the turns. I am trying to learn to use rudder more and opposite aileron for flatter turns. Like most, I learned on a high wing trainer and not to touch the rudder except for...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Good weather, and got half a dozen flights on the weekend. On the first flight, when deploying the flaps for a landing approach, I got a nasty pull to the left. Controllable, but annoying. After...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Thanks Basman. That is a good tip with the longer pins. The two little ones are a bit fiddly. I fly at Canberra (North). We have a nice synthetic grass strip which is a bit kinder on the...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

<div id="post_message_15254041">I maidened mine on the weekend. My CoG with an OS 0.46 has a bit head heavy and I added some lead to the tail. First few flights were in perfect conditions. I found...
