RE: Let's try again DL-50

The effect of any slop in the linkage will be greatly reduced. If you're using a nyrod or other sleeved tube system to keep your servos away from the engine, or if you're using clevises instead of...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

I think it's most likely that few people have yet racked up the hours for fatigue to become a factor with these mounts.

The Dehaviland Comet flew many hours before metal fatigue reached a...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

I'm with you 100% Ed. For the price, you can forgive what are a very few shortcomings of the DL50.

Some (far more expensive) engines don't even come with standoffs -- and often, those that do...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

I've already tried to tell folks here about that. It's not *if* the mounts will break, it's *when* will they break.

I'm using stand-offs on mine with aluminum stiffening rails to ensure those...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

I'm using a TBM 22x8 on my DL 50 and it sure pulls strong. I also got an NX 23x8 but if I were to buy again I'd go for the TBM version of that bigger prop too.

RE: Let's try again DL-50

It may interest you to know that one of the strongest aluminum alloys (7075) is deliberately high in zinc -- it adds significant hardness and stiffness to the alloy. Properly tempered, a good 7075...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

Nicolas, how many hours have you flow that plane before the engine mounts failed?

I have voiced my concerns over the extruded mounts earlier and these have broken *exactlY* where a stress...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

The fact that this thread has gotten so long with so few negative posts is a clear indicator that the DL50 is a good product.

Compare this thread to the almost as long one on the CRRCPro 45 and...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

Yeah, I use a regular heavy-duty receiver switch with built-in charging jack -- saves messing around and has been reliable to date.

RE: Let's try again DL-50

One other thing to watch with avgas is that it usually contains a snot-load of lead. This can foul your plug pretty damned quick (aircraft plugs are changed very regularly).

RE: Let's try again DL-50

Does your crankshaft have any radial play?

If the bearings are out of whack you cak experience symptoms like this. Grab the tips of the prop and try and rock it fore and aft (ie": pull one tip...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

Was I really the first or is there some other reason that my CDI unit has the serial number 0000001 ?

RE: Let's try again DL-50

Its been my experience that "exclusive distributor" is a term that few of the current crop of Chinese manufacturers understand.

A number that I've dealt with are happy to give multiple...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

Why cut a hole in the firewall? I haven't and my DL50 works just fine.

I've actually got more "black gunk" from a slight leak in the muffler gasket than fuel blow back from the carby.

RE: Let's try again DL-50

I find plastic gears are better for throttle servos -- although there are lots of vibes there's not much in the way of real shocks and the nylon doesn't wear anywhere near as fast as metal.

Of...

Hey Prapan, word is that you should only use 4.8V on the ignition.

RE: Let's try again DL-50

Those CS-150s are pretty slow (0.26S/4.8V, 0.23S/6.0V) and matches nothing in the Hitec range (the closest is the HS5645 but that's 0.23/4.8V, 0.18/6V and weighs in at 2.1oz versus 1.89oz for the...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

My concerns with the stock DL50 engine stand-offs are not related to the absolute strength of them but their resistance to fatigue.

Aluminum isn't a particularly good material from a fatigue...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

Well mine are already showing a little radial play after just a gallon of running.

Yes the prop is balanced, there's very little vibration and I'm using 30:1 mineral 2-stroke oil for the...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

I've been using the factory-supplied mounts and have yet to experience any problems but I'm about to replace them with standoffs -- because this damned DL50 is too light for my Extra.

Right now...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

Same here. I set up my glow motors to have the prop sitting horizontal at start of compression but it'd be real awkward to fip a gasser set up like that. The flipping motion on a gasser should be a...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

I recently tuned the bottom end needle on my DL50, it was way rich but wanted to get a few flights in first to let the engine at least start to bed in.

It needed to be leaned quite a bit (which...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

Hell, I don't know of *any* other gas engine that has such a strange break-in recommendation.

I just threw mine on the front of my plane, started it up and flew (albeit making sure to keep the...

RE: Let's try again DL-50

I would always advise buying engines (or other items worth more than chump-change) from a local dealer/distributor where possible, especially if it carries the "Made in China" label.

To this end...
