I believe he is stating that if you want to use one 2S pack and one 3S pack, they both need to be of the same mAh rating and discharge rate. in his case he is using 5000 mAh packs.

Are you doing that with the stock ESC? I like the idea of being able to use my 2S 5200 and my 3S 5000 but don't want to fry the ESC on its maiden voyage :(

parallel is simply taking your two initial leads(neg and pos) and splitting them, so you will have the following:
