It is a nice looking engine, but you see it here with a lot of replies. Too bad because most the data shows its not a real good engine to buy...maybe if one was too wait until all the bugs was...

I favor a mechanical advance using linkage to couple the throttle to a advance on the prop hub. Set the timing at idle for smoothest running then set the total advance at top RPM for best Hi speed...

Question, why do folks buy the NHG 38 with all the problems they seem to have? It must be the low price of a engine that sounds good...thinking all the probems can be easy to fix? ? Go fiuure !

Doc...if you do not have a support from exhaust...

Doc...if you do not have a support from exhaust to fire wall...you may want to add one. A exhaust that hangs way out will viabrate loose soon.

One more is to use a ring on prop hub for magnet...

One more is to use a ring on prop hub for magnet & use a small set screw to lock in the timing. Try 28 to 30 degrees & I bet you will have a better Idle. Maybe a smother engine when broke in & carb...

It depends on the engine. Some engines the valve tappet clearance will grow bigger as it heats up. For example...the old Harley Davison 74 cubic inch engine had only a .001 inch >>one thousands...
