RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Well, if it wasn't a total goner last Sunday, it was after the trip to the garbage can this morning! :( Worst of all, I'm not sure what happened to the bug. Better luck with yours.

It broke the...

Biker:

I can go look at my radio settings and tell you where I had my flaps set, but it looks like they deflect about 1/8-3/16" on the first position and around 3/8" on full down. Probably...

Biker:

Your US 60 sounds like it flies a lot like mine. It doesn't like to slow down, and gets mushy and will stall. Or at least it did until I dropped the flaps! Then it's a totally...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

I may have over-engineered the retract install, but they've held up pretty well. And our field is pretty rough; this is the first time I remember a set of retracts being used successfully. I always...

KaP2011:

Here's a whole thread on one approach to installing a pair of the Eflite's in a US60, and how to power them with a separate battery if you so chose:

KaP:

Most of the strength of a balsa-sheeted foam core wing comes from the surface strength added by the balsa/foam bond. Which is why it's so important to make sure whatever adhesive you use...

Mrshea:

A couple of thoughts on fiberglassing/sheeting/retracts:

I'll slightly disagree with the previous poster: properly done, a fiberglass/paint finish shouldn't add significant weight...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Mike's T-bird scheme works very well when flying... great visibility, and easy to tell the top from the bottom.

An interesting variation, assuming you're doing the wing tips in red and have open...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

A few things to bear in mind with the electric retracts:

(1) Make sure you end up with around 1/16" of clearance between each side of the retract housing and the retract rails. The motors have...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Mike: The wingtips were one of those "I wonder if..." ideas. I thought they might make knife-edge flight a little easier. They're removable, and I didn't use them during the maiden. They might...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Well, the timing on this one was bad... finished just in time for winter to hit. I did get it off the ground for the maiden flight, and it flew like, well, an UltraSport. OS75AX, E-flite 60-120...

If the sun would come out around here, maybe I could find out :D I don't think it will run or melt.

The green canopy was an experiment. It was done with the Candy Apple Green Testors. I was...

Jimbo:

I think that depends on whether you want the canopy to be transparent. If you don't care if you can see in/out, then Testors spray enamel in black or dark gray will do what you want. ...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Ken,

Just a cautionary thought... I used mechanical retracts on my single fuselage US60. Between our field being rough, some less than perfect landings, and the US weighing 8+ pounds, I broke...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

I flew mine with Hitech HS75's. They worked fine. I think that as long as your retract setup is correct, you could use the Hobbico's, the HS75's, or the JR RT88's and be succesful.

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

I'm currently using an Evolution 13x8 and it works very well with OS75AX. If you can afford them, the Graupner 13.5x8's will really pull it around.

Hopefully there's a EE around that can give you a better answer than this.

I hung a wattmeter on my Mustang one night, and watched the amps drawn as I just mashed the sticks around. ...

I tried to use a set of the Robart 605HD mechanicals. As you may have read is some of my previous posts, the retract experiment on my US did not work out well. The Robarts, in and of...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Alex & Brian:

1) A fiberglass/paint finish is thicker than a film covering, but probably not enough to make up the 1/32" difference in the height of the balsa. The amount of weight it adds...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

I used one of the Dave Brown/Dubro 75 sized nylon mounts with the round backplate. Mounted an OS75AX on it, and as Prgonzales did, trimmed off some excess length. I also had to reduce the thickness...

All:

I'll come in at #50. US60/OS75AX, built two years ago and still flying.
