This explains the MA write up. There they had gear stuck and when cycled it worked. Must have had a burr or something similar.

Do you think gluing some CA hinges to the corners or applying some thin glass to the bottom side to strengthen it would work?

ARF does not equal Repair! Assembly and maybe some sanding to get parts to fit correctly due to tight tolerances, but Repair of a broken, damaged or crappy painted item should be replaced....NO...
