RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

I don't think that would save servo gears, but good for adjustment.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

My nose wheel steering works great too. I just have it tied to the aileron channel with a Y harness. Only takes a tad of steering to keep her straight, and taxing around at low speed is no problem...

Predator Maiden Flight by capt. Pappy

The Predator flew Great! I was very nervous, but I got her up to speed, and just hit a tad of up elevator and she jumped off the ground. Almost to much, but...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Mr Winchell,

Congrats, and don't forget to post some pics of your Predator.

Chris,

Thanks for the info. I guess I just have to add a tiny bit of lead to achieve the cg that I am...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Hi pappajeff,

I haven't seen you on the thread in a while, and I had a question. I just finished up my Predator, and she weighs in at 39oz. I am using a motor similar to yours on the 1 inch...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Stephen,

Yes, in fact I was playing with it out in front of my house this evening, and it works great. I was just taxing around at all speeds, just below lift off speed. I'm sure it is going to...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Chris,

Here are the pix of the version 2 steering. It is going to be much better than version 1. Stronger servo, and wheel axis in line with shaft. I tested it out in the garage, and it seems...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Gentleman,

Here's an update on my steering.

I decided before first flight to scrap the steering arrangement that I had installed. The HC 9G servo was a little small, and I needed it for one...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Jumper,

OK, so I should be good with the 1800's or 2200's as far as weight goes. I would rather add battery weight, than lead weight.

Chris,

I'm not sure about using two different...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Chris,

The lights sound cool. Hope they work out for you. I was looking at the nose wheel again, and I might just change it to straight down from the bushing, so that the wheel turns on it's...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Chris,

You are correct about using the rudder for steering, while also using a V-tail. I don't know of a way around that problem other than as
Jumper says to use the aileron channel to steer....

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Chris,

Here are the pics as promised. It is a little unconventional, but may work. It would be better to have the wheel turn like a car, rather than the sweeping motion, but I had this in my...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

PappaJeff,

Yep either a Friday plane or building after Happy Hour like me. The mod was easy enough, I just wondered if anyone else had the same issues. You would think after making hundreds of...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Hi Chris,

I am also using the HC 9gram servos. I sue them in almost all my small planes. They did fit in the one wing half, and as you said only stuck up a hair, so no biggie. I already cut the...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

PappaJeff,

I started putting some of the pieces together on my Predator, and I found that the cut outs for the wing servos are very different from left to right. I could see where to cut through...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Hi Mike,

Good idea about the rubber bands. I also gave that a thought. My wings had no sticky tape.

I ordered some of these magnets to hold the wings on.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply. I guess the newbies on this thread are beating a dead horse. I haven't even started my build yet.

I like the idea of a bottom mounted servo up front for...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

What happened to the thread. I hope I didn't kill it:D

I do have a simple/silly question.

I want to rig up a steerable nose wheel with the servo mounted underneath the plane. Would you then...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Thanks PappaJeff,

Come on down the waters fine[8D]

I wish I knew how to remove the lens from the PC board so I could mount it in a dome underneath the Predator and have the PC board in the...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

I have been flying RC for a few years now and have compiled this fleet:

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Chris,

Sounds like you have a nice set up and long flight times. I never gave the prop nut thing a thought, but you are correct. I have a number of planes set up as pushers, and never had a nut...

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

Chris,

Thanks for the info on the prop conversions. I book marked the site. I have never used a 3 bladed prop, but would like to try it.
I still use a two bladed prop on my Corsair.

Cheers

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B

PapaJeff,

Thanks for that link. Sure did make a few different models.

I am familiar with pusher planes, and just wanted to add that you need to have your motor turning clockwise of course,...
