If your sandpaper is fine enough (600) and you grind no circles in the gelcoat, I guess the end effect will be the same, the scuffed surface will make a waterfilm cling to it, which reduces drag.

Yes it is.

The smooth outer surface of most brushless motors make them perfect for using a silicon jacket, or even better, a brass leaf jacket as shown in the 'Tips and Info' section on...

Dulling the riding surface with 600 waterproof shoulf be enough.
Don't go in circles, but in line with the keel. (this may seem obvious, but you never know...)

Before you do so, I'd sharpen...
