RE: Funtana 90!

Very slick indeed. Definitely need to bag up that prop. [sm=tongue.gif]

BTW, I second the comment on you having a clean build. Very nice. What is your bird's AUW?

RE: Funtana 90!

Bob,

To seal hinges, I use clear UltraKote (or equivalent) and iron it into the hinge crease along the entire length. Make sure your control surface is fully deflected when you do it. For...

Yes. Put your regulator between the Rx and the switch.

RE: Funtana 90!

I used an inverted Slimline Pitts muffler which fits the Saito 120 & 150 (see the Slimline Products website). It works great, but I am using a Perry VP-30 pump. I have no idea how well the Pitts...

RE: Funtana 90!

I thought the counterbalances on scale airplanes came with rather heavy weights to completely offset the weight of the corresponding control surface. I believe obtaining a perfect balance around the...

RE: Funtana 90!

Read back in the thread Sailr. Many of us with longer engines (YS140s and Saito 150s) extended the cowl out slightly to solve this issue. All you have to do is move the blind nut mounting locations...

RE: Funtana 90!

I haven't tried a velocity stack with my Saito. I wonder if it would make much of a difference.

RE: Funtana 90!

Gadzookes, I feel dumb!! [X(] Yeah, I lost a couple of decimal places someplace there. I meant a 10 ohm load not a 1Kohm load.

RE: Funtana 90!

The better load testers impart 500mA or even 1A on the circuit. I agree... a load tester using a mere 125mA drain is virtually worthless. Before I got my on-board LED indicator on the plane (which...

RE: Funtana 90!

I personally wouldn't go over 6 flights with your pack TMan. Batteries tend to drop voltage quickly once they get low. Then again, I'm a bit paranoid with battery power and usually give both my...

RE: Funtana 90!

I also fly around 6.75" CG at the moment. I haven't tried moving it back, but I've still only got a handful of flights on my bird (due to an unfortunate cross-threading incident the other day). I'm...

RE: Funtana 90!

Yeah, my F90 tends to tuck to the belly in knife-edge. I didn't notice any roll-coupling however. Anyway, it's nothing a little radio mixing can't solve.... I think I ended up with a 12% up...

RE: Funtana 90!

Glad your flight went okay Elpato. Deadsticks definitely suck.

Below are a couple more pictures of my plane. I wasn't really happy with the Sullivan tailwheel. It wobbled a bit too much for...

RE: Funtana 90!

In the Funtana, the antenna tube is right next to the fuse wall. So running it outside the fuse is basically moving the antenna less than an inch (assuming you run it down the same side). I believe...

RE: Funtana 90!

Really... running the antenna outside the fuse will NOT eliminate jitter. Your transmitter RF signal can easily pass through the Ultrakote, balsa, and plastic tube to reach the antenna. 72MHz has a...

RE: Funtana 90!

Well, I wouldn't say running 6V unregulated is a big no-no really. Although the parts are rated at 6VDC max, they can typically handle more and loaded 5-cell packs quickly drop below 6V. I know a...

RE: Funtana 90!

Alf,

I have some 17x4W APC props I can give ya cheap if you're dying to get your hands on them... :D

RE: Funtana 90!

Yup... no 18x4W props... and believe me, I looked hard.

For my 150, it seems 17x6 works damn well. 16x6 APCs seem to be a good choice too.

I don't like the aileron control horns either. ...

RE: Funtana 90!

I broke down yesterday and purchased an Aeroworks 27% Ultimate Bipe. I got a good deal on it so I couldn't pass it up. I plan to put a DA-50 in it... eventually. It'll likely sit in an unfinished...

BTW, does anyone have the weight savings of the titanium wheel axels over stock handy? I can't seem to find the post that discusses it.

Also, I haven't been super happy with the Sullivan...

RE: Funtana 90!

Your 14 year old is one lucky kid. I'm 34 as well... we're all just big kids really. I refuse to grow up when it comes to toys!

Enjoy your kid's F90. I love mine.

RE: Funtana 90!

My Saito 150 turns the 17x6 APC at 9500 RPMs (lean peak). I richen it up from there to about 9200 RPMs. (I am running a Pitts Muffler with a VP-30 pump with 30% nitro fuel.)

RE: Funtana 90!

Nedyob,

It's just simple trigonometry to convert when the length of the control surface is known. However, it's also just as easy to purchase a protractor to measure the deflection in degrees. ...
