If you have a mystery air leak have you changed all of the fuel tubing and brass tubing? All of it? RNV to carb if you have it? Gas tank innards and the brass tubing? It cracks inside the stopper...

I just reread what I wrote about metal bits getting caught on the chip detector plugs. What I meant about damage to the engine was damage from whatever lost the metal pieces, not the pieces...

The oil channel that he was talking about isn't always a bad idea. Konrad called it a gouge. All things can be over done or done when not necessary, but either a straight or spiral channel is helpful...
