The one Wltoys 12428 I looked at came with a 2S LiPo battery with a Deans connector. Either way, most chargers today will handle LiPo/LiFe/Li Ion, and NiMH/NiCd cells.

Anytime you buy a used RC, I'd recommend a complete teardown and rebuild. You never know what you may find. Front diff could be needing shimmed, or maybe have a blown bearing somewhere.

If you do go for it, and choose a 3S pack to start with, the transmitter does have a EPA (end point adjustment) for the throttle channel. That will allow you to set the maximum throttle if need be....
