RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

Thanks yates and Steve for your interest. Cost will probably run around $30 for the assembled and painted panel as shown. I may offer it as a kit for less but have not decided for sure yet. Please...

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

I recently made up an instrument panel to fit the TF P-47 for a friend. The panel is custom designed to fit the TF cockpit since it is substantially narrower than scale. If there is enough interest...

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

I was just hasslin' you Jimbo. Chances are more guys would think they are wrong if you do make them staggered! Just make 'em neat and tidy and most guys won't know they difference. The Jug is...

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

But the guns in the Jug are staggered so that they are parallel to the ground as viewed from head on!

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

I am working on a 1/6 scale P-47 cockpit kit as we speak red and will have a gun sight available. My gun sights generally consist of 3d printed and laser cut parts. I will do both the gyro and...

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

EJ,

I can provide you with a vacuum formed intake "splitter" for the larger Ziroli size Jug if that is the one you've got. (Assuming I can still find my plug!) Probably too big for the Top...

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

I know nothing of Zor's history but in this particular instance the thread diversion was not initiated by him but rather by Mr. JurassicJet. Not being an aviator in the full scale sense I don't know...

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

My opinion, for what it's worth, would be line it up with the plan and make sure it's level and glue it in place. Quite honestly if you're off on the incidence at all it isn't going to be much and...

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

One trick is to make a cut-out in a sheet of wood that is just slightly larger all the way around than your wing tip. This helps force the heated plastic around the compound shape accurately. Clamp...

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

My .02 cents again but if you use a variable heat soldering iron and a riveting template such as what is shown below this method can go very, very rapidly. The rivet strip is simply made from card...

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

Actually if you look closely you will find that is exactly what happens to a flush rivet. A flush rivet is not recessed, it's flush, and thus the only place that it gathers dirt/grease is around the...

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

Not sure if it helps or just muddies up the water even more but I've used solvent based paints (butyrate dope and Perfect Paint) over the top of both Monokote stick on trim material as well as...

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

Compared to most of my builds you're blazing along at great speed redbiscuits! Have any of your detractors attempted anything similar?

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

I have used vinyl "stick-on" rivets on a couple of projects with great results. You don't want to put them under the primer, particularly if you use a high build primer. Rather they go on over the...

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build

The restored "No Guts, No Glory" shown above is painted silver. However, Captain Ben Mayo's original wartime example would have been natural metal.
