Servo Clips

Anywhere there are servo connections there is a potential failure waiting to happen. All of my in-line servo connections are protected with Spektrum Servo Clips. They are cheap. About $0.30 each. And...

Landing Gear

Some detail of the landing gear.

The gear that comes with this Avistar is way too narrow to manage an 8 foot wingspan. Also, since I installed a DLE 55cc, I am cutting the air with a Xoar 22x10...

Flap System

Although this Avistar 30cc has "flaps", they are almost useless for slowing this plane down. The flaps are cut the same as the ailerons and barely manage a 30 deflection.
I carved out the hinge...

Main Wing Modification

After extending my elevators to 5 inches, I was having some fun watching this Avistar make tight turns and immelmans like a 3D plane.

However, this is NOT a 3D plane!
The wing joiner is only a 15...

Tow Hooks

If you buy the tow hooks that are suggested as accessories to the Avistar 30cc you will have to file and smooth the opening so it doesn't cut your tow line. The edges are surprisingly sharp!
I...

Canopy Magnets

After the first few flights I noticed that the canopy was working its way off its mount. The inside was also quite warm from hot air passing through the firewall.
I covered the firewall hole with a...

Tail wheel

If you plan to tow banners it's a good idea to protect your tow line from getting caught in the tail wheel or control horns. The following photos show a wire guard in front of the tail wheel and two...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

You can make a modification to the rudder servo and mount it near the rudder.
I did this and set it up with dual control arms.

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

After looking at the Robart site I noticed you can just buy the seperate parts instead of the whole gear sets.
I should have studied this a little more last fall and saved some money.

When I get...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

I stand corrected. The landing gear is made by Robart.

I used 1/4 scale for the spring loaded cross braces and 1/5 scale for the main outside braces. I had to purchase both sets of gear.
Kind of...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

I installed a YS 115 in mine. This engine is 4 stroke supercharged.

With a 16 x 9 3 blade prop I get 15 pounds of thrust, at about 10,500rpm. 15% nitro fuel.

My Pawnee has tow hooks for...

RE: Nitroplanes Skymaster 337, Build Tips

The plane flies great. Well balanced. Not very agile. Kind of like a pig with wings. I can do Cuban 8"s and rolls but you are moving a lot of weight that hangs below the airfoil. So although these...

RE: Plane Cleaner
