I have two of the sig craftsman kits by Maxey Hester still in the box. They are smaller but do have the sheeted foam wing but not a foam turtledeck. I am not aware of a previous Sig Zlin.

I just lost a 74" span Zlin 526. If you could identify the identity of the kit it would be helpful. It had a sheeted foam wing and turtledeck with a balsa fuse. It flew so well I'd like to build...

Zlin Acrobat Plans

My Zlin Acrobat recently had an unscheduled meeting with a bean field. Since I acquired it at a swap meet I don't know who made the kit. It was a 74" span with a sheeted foam wing and turtle deck and...

Kensington park has large changing rooms at the beaches with no roofs. A couple of my co-workers mused about flying a copter with a camera there. I quickly responded that that action might cause...

Paint, dye, color for foam

i am seeking a source for dye or color for foam that adds little weight. Many paints and dyes may degrade foam while others add substantial weight. Any suggestions?

RC Superhero build

I am new to flat foam construction. My project is a 6' 6" flying profile man. I've ordered the Depron listed in the plans. What is the best adhesive to bond depron to depron or carbon fiber to depron?

Uberlite repair?

I need to replace the motor on Flyzone Uberlite or alternatively the entire front gearbox. These are glued together. How do I disassemble without destroying the airframe

RE: Thrust Figures For Norvel .049 and .061

If you intend to pylon race flying fast is your concern not thrust, torque or horsepower. Your plane and your purpose dictate the right engine prop combination. Fuel consumption will go up with rpm...

RE: 1/2A SST Build Questions

I have a couple of 1/2a, a couple of .09 ARFs, a .20 size, a .40 size and an 82" span giant SST. A friend really loved this design and pushed me to fly all of his to trim them out. I fell prey to...

RE: Propellers

I agree that cox rubber duckies are much more durable than the stiff props. I agree that cox rubber duckies are more efficient than most offerings. A cox rubber duckie 5x3 would not even keep my J3...

RE: Propellers

If all you are interested in is unbreakability choose those soft props. I like performance from my planes. You get the most performance from props that don't de-pitch when in use. I did extensive...

RE: Herr piper j-3 cub

I built two J3s from Herr. The first I extended the wing to 52" and flew with an .049 then switched to an .061 norvel. It flew great as a 3 channel! I had over 14 air hours on it and just shelved it....

RE: Herr Cub on Herr Floats

Don't over engine it! We tried an AP .15 assuming that the extra power would be needed with the floats. The plane would break water and throw one wing tip down into the water. This resulted in many...

RE: K&B .61 engine?

I have both the types of twist .61s. Two have the long pipes and one has the shorter fat pipe (6050 & 6060). Both out perform the OS.61FX by a sizable margin (I have a few of these too). I have not...

RE: K&B .61 engine?

My K&B Twist spins a 14x6 prop and produces almost ten pounds of static thrust on my thrust bench. Is that enough thrust for a 5# plane?

RE: Fly Quiet Tuned Pipe?

I disagree. That is exactly what he did.
Headers are difficult to manufacture at a reasonable cost in this size. Mufflers seldom seal well on .049-.061 Norvels or wasps so the same dificulty would...

RE: Fly Quiet Tuned Pipe?

I stated before that I had very good results with the Fly Quiet pipe. Tuned pipes may be tuned for more torque at lower RPM just as one might be tuned for peak HP. Although this pipe quiets the...

RE: Fly Quiet Tuned Pipe?

I did RPM and thrust testing both static and at five mph increments up to 35mph. Using the "aftermuffler" and adjusting the length to peak each prop, rpm increased from 600-800 rpm. That may seem...

RE: PROP. FOR ENYA80

I like a 13x6 on mine but depending on the model maybe a 14x6. These work well on aerobatic planes and slow flyers but for pattern type flying a 12x8 would suffice.

RE: Fly Quiet Tuned Pipe?

Yes he is referring to the after muffler tuned pipe. The header that attaches to the muffler output telescopes into the main chamber. This week I was doing tests on my thrust stand with several...

RE: Norvel AME vs Big Mig?

Flyquiet pipes is a brand name of pipes. They started as a torque increaser pipe so larger props could be used at lower RPM to decrease volume while maintaining thrust. They were made of a woven...
