RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

I have to agree. I have had my issues with my mammoth ST, but for $350 US (hobby people price) you can't beat it. New buyers just need to be aware that you will most likely have to shim the diffs...

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

well, with your 2spd you also had a 65t gear (1st), so you've seen how fast it goes in 1st. What was the 1st gear on your clutchbell? Probably 12 or 14T. With your center diff, I think a 14T...

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

that grinding sound is probably due to your differentials (front, rear, or both). they're typically not shimmed properly from the factory.

those 2spd trannies are pretty simple, how are you...

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

yeah, if you're going to be lifting all 4 off the ground it won't last, but for a fairly level dirt surface it is pretty sweet. It's definitely not fun buying and installing a new set of gears each...

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

I totally understand why people get the center differential, but I'm still hung up on the 2spd. I just love the shifting and top end :D
Of course, it works for me because I'm not into big jump.

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

finished break-in of the Ofna Force 32 in my mammoth ST today. Definite improvement over the 24.7. I'm running a 2spd with a 12/17t clutchbell and it burns all 4 off the line and then some...when it...

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

I just received my Ofna Force .32 today. It's a direct bolt in to replace the 24.7, just transfer over the flywheel/clutch assembly. Hopefully my new clutch shoes come in tomorrow so I can break this...

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

Yeah, I've replaced many drive cups myself...all worn badly from the stock 24.7. I wonder if there are cups for a different vehicle that could be used. My mirage never had problems with the drivecups...

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

They've certainly been reliable for me. I've had two. One was in my 1/8 buggy (thunder tiger mirage, very old). I beat the living hell out of that engine, overheated it many times (was learning my...

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

excellent shot of the gas cans ;)

With respect to the engine upgrade mentioned above, I also think the 457 would be a good choice. I just blew up my 24.7 and am planning on going with an Ofna...

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

buy the shim kit from hobbypeople for $2.50: http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/148624.asp

You put the shims on the pinion gear going into the differential. They force it closer to the ring gear...

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

I bought a used mammoth ST and the center diff's on front and rear skipped terribly. I had to buy a shim kit to get them to mesh correctly. If yours are skipping you might want to consider this. It...
