YS 120 AC starting difficulties

Dave,
I have several very old YS-120's and recently I've noticed that they've become difficult to start after sitting up for a week. One in particular that's giving me trouble is a motor that Dave...

RE: Pattern Aircraft Trimming

Hey Dude,
The pattern community has through trial and error certainly figured out how to trim their models. I think the fact that the wings and tail are physically smaller means that scale effects...

RE: Eflite 1360 Outrunner Prop Size

I don't know much about the Jeti but the 18-amps should be plenty...it almost sounds like the ESC timing isn't set properly.

RE: When to give up on an airframe?

Dan,

Is that you? Good to hear from you.

I've found that the sub-fin eliminates the need for right thrust due to spiral slipstream. I also think it makes upright harriers more...

RE: When to give up on an airframe?

Hub,
No you're not cross-eyed...it's not in my article because I don't subscribe to that line of thinking. It's actually one of my pet-peeves.

This will probably sound bad but the quote...

RE: The tensor helps me get A's in school.

Hah! Chris, that's hilarious. What a slave driver. The funny thing is that Kat will have him cleaning the house soon and he'll wish he was cleaning an airplane.

RE: Eflite 1360 Outrunner Prop Size

What motor is it? It sounds more like a speed controller issue if the motor is pulsing.

RE: When to give up on an airframe?

Hub,
Sounds like pitch coupling is ruining your day. I've written some things about this subject that I'll attach here. Does this airplane have a large rudder horn balance? If so you may want...

RE: Ultimate questions and pictures of it so far

The airplane looks great...With this airplane I typically use a 1320 3-cell but with the 860 3-cell the weight savings is noticeable and I feel the airplane flies better. I've also tried to keep the...

RE: Ultimate Question

Hi Bill,
Sounds like you might have elevator free-play issues. I've never had one do specifically what you are talking about unless the control horn was coming loose or the pushrod wasn't...

RE: 33% edge 540

This is Mike, I'm on-line at George Hick's house at the moment. I prefer 6V on all larger models. It just makes sense IMHO to get the most torque and speed out of the seros. Yes, the Edge should KE...

RE: Memphis Fly-in

AC,
I haven't decided yet...unfortunately it's scheduled really close to the eTOC. The venue looks to be amazing...I'd love to fly in there with a 35% foamy. :)

RE: Pants Question

Hi Rob,
About all they do is really make it look a lot better. Aerodynamically you might see a minuscule increase in side force capability and an equivalent reduction in directional and pitch...

RE: Twist question

Chris,
The only airplane I've flown with a Evo 46 is an Extreme Flight Edge 540 profile. It had good power with a 12x4 APC prop but the airplane is probably only 5 pounds. I flew a Twist the...

RE: How do you get the prop on the Tensor??

Hey Niklas,
Man, I've been meaning to call you for months now. Happy New year bro!

BTW, I don't drill 40% props by eye anymore...I did fly that prop though and it didn't shake too...

RE: aerodynamics question

You are quite correct. An irrotational fluid flow allows you to jump streamlines and use Bernoulli throughout the flowfield and if the fluid is rotational you must restrict yourself to that...

RE: How do you get the prop on the Tensor??

Sorry for the Late Reply,

Were you able to get the propeller mounting problem figured out? The real problem is that prop is made for the inrunner gearboxes and the outrunners use a different...
