RE: advice on GPS in gasboat

I called Garmin and spoke with a tech before I bought my Foretrex 201over a year ago. I told him that I planned on using my wrist mounted Foretrex on my Yamaha Waverunners as well as my RC boats. ...

RE: OS Max .65 vr-m

About 5 yrs ago, my first ever ebay purchase was a K&B .82 inboard engine. The pictures of the engine looked great-almost brand new. I ended up paying about $150 for it and when it came in the...

RE: TOP SECRET HARDWEAR

Bill G of Top Secret makes some excellent hardware. I used to visit his shop when he was in south Florida and I've even visited his new shop in South Carolina. I've got lots of his stuff (nitro and...

Yes Aeromarine makes gas powered Sprint Cats. Go to: Aeromarine RC

It sounds like you found a great deal. I'd be all over it ;) !

RE: MaxCatV1-L Scratch Build

I've got some experience buiding wood boats and I know that it is very difficult trying to get a large deck epoxied down before the epoxy starts to harden. In the warm Florida temps, 30 min epoxy...

RE: MaxCatV1-L Scratch Build

MaxCorvette, what is the CG of your cat and with your experience with it, how much would you change it on your next build? I've got my plans printed out and I'll start the build later in the summer....

RE: Dubro tank install

I do the same thing as Mart does in my AM Avenger with a hard tank. I've got a gas bag in my scratch-built wood mono. I like it a lot better and won't be going back to hard tanks with vent lines ;)...

RE: MaxCatV1-L Scratch Build

You already answered that when you said that you could get 3/16" plywood at Home Depot in a 4 X 8 sheet. 1"=25.4mm 3/16"=.187" .187 X 25.4=4.49 Therefore, your 3/16" plywood is just...

RE: MaxCatV1-L Scratch Build

You're absolutely correct Doug. I guess I should've looked at my plans a little bit before I made the comment about 1/4" thick stringers. 3 layers of 4mm is way thick in places!

RE: MaxCatV1-L Scratch Build

Actually, the 3/16" wood is about 4.5mm. The expensive hobby wood that you're talking about is probably aircraft birch plywood. Very good stuff. I used Okoume plywood for my monohull build. It...

RE: MaxCatV1-L Scratch Build

build4less, if you look at page 1 of this thread, post #18 by MaxCorvette, he says that he used 4mm wood for the ribs and the stringers. Its his design but I think thats kinda thin on the stringer...

RE: MaxCatV1-L Scratch Build

I'm looking at the same issue with wood only 48" long. When I built my 48" wood mono, I needed 1/4" thick wood for the stringers. I only had 1/8" thick plywood so I epoxied 2 pieces together to...

RE: Quick gas bag question

I run my gas bag underneath my engine which (on my boat) is just forward of the CG. So far its been working great.

I need a little more forward CG since my wood mono tends to be "flighty" at...

RE: Should I buy a belt sander for scratch-building?

Thanks again for the compliment on my boat, Doug [sm=biggrin.gif] . I'm usually counting every nickel as well since this is a very expensive hobby. Very expensive! I was just thinking that the...

RE: Should I buy a belt sander for scratch-building?

Doug, I'll go take a look at my local Home Depot and Lowes when I get a chance. Even though I think that I'd like a larger sander, I'm open to the smaller, cheaper ones as well. I'd like to start...

RE: Should I buy a belt sander for scratch-building?

I was looking at the Craftsman sanders such as this one: Craftsman

It has a larger disc (8" diameter vs 6".) The reviews aren't all that great but that may be because people remember when...

Should I buy a belt sander for scratch-building?

I've built one boat from scratch-the 48" woodie that everyone has built by now :D !

Anyway, I remember when I started the build 3 1/2 yrs ago and I cut out the parts with a jigsaw, there was...

RE: Another 48" woody build

Okay, I see. It looks like Zenoah makes some true "weedeater" type engines in addition to their "RC" engines. The "weedeater" type is what you've got in your boat.

RE: MaxCatV1-L Scratch Build

Right you are about being too light with a gas boat, Marcel ;) ! My mono is a bit too light. With my next scratch-build (cat) I'm not going to focus so much on light weight. I was thinking too...
