Hi all,
thanks for your input guys, I really appreciate it!
I already tried Lowe's, but unfortunately they haven't anything that fits and the assortment of their competitors is even worse.......

Mentor G (MaxFord USA) Crash, need length and diameter of the wing tube please!

Hi all,

Unfortunately I nearly destroyed my Mentor while hitting a Tree in the long final. This aicraft is incredible robust, the fuselage wasn't damaged at all after the crash. The landing gear...

RE: Stainless steel tubing for giant scale PA18 SuperCub

Hi,
unfortunately there was not much time during the weekend to work on my little project. Yesterday I had some time to work with the CAD. Before I start on a second version of the landing gear, I...

RE: Stainless steel tubing for giant scale PA18 SuperCub

Hi,

@Jim, thanks for all the info.

I also had all the fittings on one piece of paper and found that laser cutting was much more expensive than I thought. I startet the same process on Sunday...

RE: Stainless steel tubing for giant scale PA18 SuperCub

Jim
I am OK with sharing this thread, there is not so much information out there about brazed steel or stainless steel tube frames, so maybe we should keep the information together in one thread. My...

RE: Stainless steel tubing for giant scale PA18 SuperCub

Jim,
weird, I wrote my posting, send it and went for dinner, I could swear that your post with the pictures wasn't there at this point of time. We must have sent our postings at the same time.
I...

RE: Stainless steel tubing for giant scale PA18 SuperCub

@Jim
Thanks for all the information, I used basically the same technic, but I used 56% silver brazing rod instead the nickel bronze rod, but I also used Harris Stay-Silv white brazing flux. I am...

RE: Stainless steel tubing for giant scale PA18 SuperCub

Hi,

@Jim
If you really talking about welding and not about brazing, this must have been a tremendous amount of work. Brazing those tubes is easy and quick but welding.....
Anyhow, I would really...

RE: Stainless steel tubing for giant scale PA18 SuperCub

Hi,

never before, but now I did, thanks for the info.
Interesting, a lot of stuff, a good source if one or two pieces of tubing are needed. Even though I can't find the perfect sizes (wall...

RE: Stainless steel tubing for giant scale PA18 SuperCub

@Richard

that is exactly right, the Robart landing gear is made from 4130 alloy "aircraft steel" and it is welded, not brazed. I checked the possibilities for welding stainless steel instead...

RE: Stainless steel tubing for giant scale PA18 SuperCub

@Richard

I do not have the best answer to your question because regarding the material I only follow what others have done before me.
I do belive that you do not get 4130 alloy in the size you...

Stainless steel tubing for giant scale PA18 SuperCub

Hi all,

I started a giant scale (1/3) PA18 project with the fuselage build from stainless steel tubing. Like planes from Graeme Mears and Paolo Severin. I already did my own plans using the...

RE: Roto motor 35FS

Hi,

I am also looking for information about the RotoMotor 35FS, I thought it could be a good engine for my TC Piper (22 pound 110 inch wing span). I like the sound from those 4 stroke engines, but...

RE: ARF Mentor-G from MAXFORD USA

The "second" maiden flight went well, the engine has plenty of power, maybe to much for this plane.

RE: ARF Mentor-G from MAXFORD USA

Some news from the Mentor-G.
No luck with this plane guys.
Finaly I got the engine setup done, the transition was a real problem, the engine always quits from full power to idle. But like always,...

RE: ARF Mentor-G from MAXFORD USA

Hi all,

@ec121
the CG from the manual is nearly exact at 25% of the chord. I calculated the CG with the Aircraft Super Calculator from the Geistware page. The result was 33%. I will start with...

RE: ARF Mentor-G from MAXFORD USA

Hi

@superfli balancing the plane with the empty tank not positioned in the CG, results in an imbalanced plane at the end of the flight or even sooner. Flies this airplane so rock stable that it...

RE: ARF Mentor-G from MAXFORD USA

@superfli
Thanks for your input !

With the additional weight from the gasoline and the fuel tank as far forward as possible, the plane might be correct balanced when the tank is full, but what...

RE: ARF Mentor-G from MAXFORD USA

This plane is freaking tail heavy, and it probably was a mistake to install the fuel tank in the center of gravity, like I did in my other planes.
I hope I am right with the CG, which should be 3...

RE: ARF Mentor-G from MAXFORD USA

I installed the tank in the CG and my engine is only a Zenoah 20cc, therefore some weight is necessary in the nose to balance the plane slightly nose heavy.
