RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

Hey Mark, good to hear from you. I miss all my old friends up here. I only used those servos on the Yak and probably flew about 30 flights with them in the plane. I had no issues and they seemed to...

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

I started this thread 7 years ago and I can't believe it's still alive. I've been out of R/C for 5 years(except simulators) being distracted by vintage karts, but I still plan to get back to R/C one...

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

Yep, it's very nice, except that lake still makes me nervous for flying. Not that I would make a mistake and land in there( ;) ), but if something went wrong at the wrong time, which seems to happen...

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

Hi Z,

First, sorry to hear about your crash, but at least it doesn't sound too bad. Sorry to take so long getting back to you, but I quit getting notifications on this thread, and I've been...

RE: With the Wife's blessings....does yours?

In the house???? You've got to be kidding. My wife barely tolerates my little "toys", and resents the little time I spend with them, though that isn't what she says. If I tried to display one in the...

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

The only place I've seen them in the US is on eBay.

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

Yep, that's right at 6v. 13kg at 4.8v and they're pretty fast at .13 sec at 6v. The XPowers are not that strong at 155oz/in.

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

I'm using some XPower 150 oz in servos of of eBay that cost $20. They're working fine so far. I don't know anything about the Tower Pro servos, but they may be the exact same ones I have only branded...

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

Way cool Brian! I'm in....so what's the date? I'll bring my clubs....there couldn't be more than 2 or 3" of dust on them.

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

Hey T.F.,

That sounds great, but your experience doesn't surprise me, it's pretty much universal. I don't think I've heard from anyone that doesn't like the way these things fly.

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

No, you want the one for the EF/KMP Yak. Troy Built doesn't seem to have it listed on their site. Either call them and ask for the 30% EF/KMP Yak gear, or order directly from GraphTechRC.com if Troy...

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

Hi TF,

I forgot, I ended up taking off the wheel pants too. Also, I am using a lightened backplate TruTurn spinner, so that's a bit lighter too. I would look into getting a lighter spinner and...

RE: BME YAK 54 87"

Oh Bob, you're just one of those JR snobs. ;) I assumed he had a 8411 lying around and that's why he wanted to use it. If he's buying new, you're right, it wouldn't make much sense to use an 8411.

RE: BME YAK 54 87"

Hi rcpete,

The biggest issue is not stalling, but blow-back. If you don't have enough power in your rudder servo you'll fall out of high-alpha knife edge, and a knife edge loop will most likely...

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

I just posted a link to a full-size Yak-54 performing in the full-size aircraft forum. It's of Eric Beard performing at the Hillsboro Airshow last September. Unfortunately, Eric was just killed last...

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

Hi TF,

The only things I did to lighten the plane was take out my second battery pack (2500Mah Nimh - 5.1oz), CF wing tube and CF landing gear, plus a titanium/CF tail gear(not much savings...

Yak-54 - Russian Thunder - Eric Beard

I've been planning to post this bit of video of Eric Beard performing in his Yak-54 last September at the Hillsboro (OR) Airshow for all the Yak lovers out there, but now that I've finally gotten...

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

Hi Super D,

Yep, I've owned both a TS-42 and 52. I got the 52 just before I was "forced" to drop out of the hobby for a couple of years and sold it before I got a chance to put it on a plane. I...

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

Looks great T.F. BTW, I assume you guys are going to fly the TOC and KMP back-to-back; let us know your impressions.

I assume the TOC weighs about the same...what engine do you have in the TOC...

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

I think it's the air in Rifle. It makes all scales weigh lighter. :D

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly

Hi T.F.,

I'm glad the wing tube worked out. That is a bit on the heavy side, but I was almost at 18lbs before I did some lightening things, and it flew great at that weight. You should have...

RE: MVVS Exhaust option

You won't be disappointed with the MVVS. It starts easily, is very smooth and has excellent power. BTW, my recommendation is to run a much smaller prop than MVVS recommends if you're running either...

RE: MVVS Exhaust option

The bottomline is that either engine will perform close enough to each other in any configuration that you probably won't be able to tell the difference in the plane you're flying them in. Both will...

RE: MVVS Exhaust option

Wraparound is a pitts-style muffler, while the other will be an diverter style -- straight down.

BTW, whichever one of those you chose, either will likely be down several hundred RPM over any of...
