I had the same issue when i got my Nano, turns out the channels were reversed. Im sure you have sorted your issue by now, but i had the same exact issue so i hope this helps someone else googling...

I recommend starting with a clam indoor platform like the MCX2. Its a lot of fun to fly around the house and you can practice anytime your home. Its a blast to fly my MCX2 around while still groggy...
