While flying today, the muffler joiner tube snapped off just outside the jam nut at the head. Muffler was like a little bomb coming down way out there, didn't even try to find it!
The worst part is,...

Just opened the valve cover for a quick check, and it's very clean and oily with no slop on the rocker shafts. I've also got a Saito 57T and on that engine I worry about the LACK of oil on the cams...

Just curious, what type and how much oil were you useing in the fuel? Mine is still clean under the rocker cover, with plenty of oil. I'm running Stihl HP ultra at 30-1.

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

The tank in my plane, (Giant super sportster), is right in line with the carb and it's also a fairly small one too, 8oz.
The instructions say to leave fuel in the carb when your done for the day,...

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

Remember, when you get it close, a screwdriver blade width is all it takes sometimes.

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

I will agree, the DLE's are a bit simpler to deal with, I've got a whole fleet of them- 20cc, 30cc, 35ra, & 50cc, and they all run good.
The OS is not quite as easy to work with. I tend to break my...

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

So far, my OS40 is still running really well. It seems to like the xoar 19-8 on the super sportster.
The mixture screws are really touchy and don't need to be turned much to make a big difference....

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

I think the 40cc OS would fly the Tiger Moth just fine! Just put a big dia. flat pitch prop on it to fly slow.
I don't think that the OS would be overkill, but it would be at the higher end for...

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

Once you get it leaned out from the stock settings at idle, it will get smoother running. Have you tried running it at full throttle yet since you mentioned youv'e had it up to only 4500 rpm. As far...

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

The throttle response is very quick, and yes, since it has a walbro it doesn't have a linear throttle.
What I do is use the throttle curve in the transmitter to help linearize the power, it works...

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

Iv'e got the DLE 35RA rear exhaust also, and it is no slouch in the power dept.
Power to weight, the 4 strokes will never be as good as similar size 2 strokes for all out power.
I wasn't going...

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

Iv'e been flying it on my new Giant super sportster and it's getting better every flight!
About 10-15 flights so far and it pulls like crazy! 19-8 Xoar laminated is what it seems to like so far.

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

I got it all mounted up to the test stand and ran it this evening.
The idle mixture screw was way too rich, so I leaned it up a bit then it finally started up then we went in a little more to get...

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

I'lll have it running VERY soon. I had to make the prop shaft adapters down at work, but it will be running soon.
I know this was alot of money, but, after fondleing it for a bit I think it's going...

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

The brown truck stopped by and had the engine!
First off I can say it looks typical OS perfect casting, and it's a little lighter than my NGH38.
Overall a very nice looking engine.
It has...

RE: O.S. GF40 4st gas

I also have the Saito FG-57T gas twin, and am not totally impressed with the design quality. The cams run almost dry, very little lube gets up there so I oil them after every flying session.
That...

O.S. GF40 4st gas

Has anyone tried one of these yet?
I've got one on the way, (yes I know it was alot of coin), but it IS an OS after all.
I'm installing it on a GP Giant Super Sportster for some nice laid back...
