RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Woah, a 40? I don't know much about engines but that seems a little big. You would need to scale it up ALOT.

You might be better off just getting an electric system for cheap from hobbycity.com.

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

I had an interesting experience flying yesterday. I took it out to a local park (without tennis courts:D) to fly, and there was a baseball game going on in the nearby field. A whole ton of kids came...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

As long as you had a huge field with no angry tennis players I vote that this is a great plane to learn on.

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

HAHA! :DI've never heard the term "bank and yank" but it is so true. I think the singular reason I could actually fly the plane (and end up crashing it anyway) is video games (FlightSim, Crimson...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Like this?:D

That probably wouldn't mess up the CG too much, at least I don't think.

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Well, they weren't getting mad at the airplane itself, there's just a tennis court next to the field and there was this guy there who started yelling stuff like, "the airplane is really distracting,...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

YAY!!!!!!!!!

I maidened it. It was really fun. Critterhunter, I totally understand what you mean by the stop and turn on a dime thing. Fisher, I totally understand the "dump power and go...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Critterhunter,

Those hot wire tools look ingenious. A cool thing to add for the cf tube cutter is a flat plate around the stick, so the tool stays level against the surface of the wing. Of...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Critterhunter,

I like your enthusiasm with the modifications, but I think that there is still something to be said for how simple the plane is. I think that adding on too many gizmos kinda...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Well my progress continues steadily at a... slow... pace. Today I got the aileron and rudder servos all set up and ready to go. If I have time over the week I'll get it all put together and balanced,...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Critterhunter,

It gets hot near the base, where the C-clip you're talking about is. The other thing is I stopped the motor and unplugged it when I saw that it was wiggling, and then I tried to...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Well, I set up my motor and reciever, got the propsaver mounted. I tried spinning it up, but I found a few problems...
With the TowerPro BP-21T has anyone have trouble with:
1. The shaft wobbling...

Oh no, I'm not against you, I just think that there are some flaws in your argument. I am a newbie to this stuff so take my responses as speculation.

AND YAY! FOR SURE TOMORROW I WILL HAVE THE...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

I agree, but a few things:
1. You basically explained the marketing of the airplane hobby industry. See, the manufacturers say "Oh, you should start with rudder and go to aileron" as a BS marketing...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

V-Tails are really cheap to make, they are just one piece of foam with a couple of dents in it. Ailerons require either two servos or a more complex linkage to do it, while a V-Tail is simply 2...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Yay! I am pretty much done with foam cutting now, I basically just have to wait for battery, esc and motor from HobbyCity to come. No pictures.

How did you guys link the aileron servos? I am...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Hellozzzzz, I haven't posted for a while. I don't have pictures yet, but I made the booms and the horizontal stabilizers tonight. They are alright. I got my radio and servos yesterday and I'll have...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Thanks. I ordered the rest of the stuff that I needed, IE radio/servos/motor/battery/charger. I got the TowerPro 21T motor and the 2250 3s 20c Loong Max li-po from HobbyCity, and I got the other...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Alright, I have a very rough fuselage now and both wings. Took like 4-5 tries to get that second wing done right. Wire kept breaking.
So the pics have the fuselage with the carbon fiber/tape wing...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Thanks. The ripple is probably caused by rushing; a reaction from failures of going too slow. The wire cutter (current edition) is hot enough to melt the foam without completely touching it, but not...

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Yeah, thanks. School is so annoying... I keep thinking WHY AM I NOT AT HOME MESSING WITH FOAM? (could make a song about that)
So I try to do it whenever I get the chance which is not very often.

RE: FIRST FOAMIE

^Good suggestion, probably the cheapest and easiest way to find CG is using half of a dowel on a table. It's less accurate then one of the fancier ones though.

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

It'll have two carbon fiber pieces that are inside of the fuselage that go into the wing. Then tape prevents them from sliding in and out.

Okay, I actually cut the wing parts well! Cool!

RE: Here's A Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! (Part 2)

Okay, I figured out a solution to my problems. What I'll do is make two wings, each 17 1/4" long and then attach them with a carbon fiber rod that goes through a bump on the fuselage. I then tape...
