RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

Hey Double D- with that fancy new job downtown you can afford to have Kelly build one for you too!

$10,000 plus materials ought to cover it (barely). If he lets you fly it you better say no and...

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

Can't remember if I used 1 or 2 strips. Seeing as I was following Albert's recommendations at the time I probably did 2. Go with 2 to be safe.

Kelly- have you laid the fiberglass yet? Before you put that piece on shown in your pics you'll want to put another layer across the joint- maybe 2" wide.

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

Kelly- those carb arms look great- I did the same thing on the Super 160 on my Carden. Only suggestion I would make is to use nylon insert nuts on those 4-40 bolts.

One other thing- don't look...

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

Kelly,

I used Goop on the cowl ring and it has held up fine for the full flying season.

Are you going to cut an additional cooling exit in the cowl? You'll want one on the bottom of the...

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

Question- do you guys put the screw into the wing tube as well? If not, why that stab but not the wing?

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

I cap the ends of my phenolics so that the tube can't move around.

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

Nope, I don't use the bolts through the tube in the stabs- no problems. With the modified stab attachment (like Walt does and like you are doing) I feel it is locked down and no need for the...

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

Kelly- The square anti-rotation piece extended approximately 4" or so into the wing root- and that's probably overkill. Most of the force is taken up near the root.

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

You are right about the stabs. I'm not saying that your setup will be a problem- I just would rather see it as close as possible to eliminate any potential flexing. The square hardwood won't bend-...

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

Lookin' good.

If I might make an observation- I really like the wing adjusters. I would have preferred to see them mounted flush with the rest of the 3/8" square truss assembly so that it's as...

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

FYI, I have been using square anti-rotation pins for years now and I highly recommend them.

I have them on my Carden 300 even though they are not called for. I like having them to line up the...

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

I've been flying mine for the whole 2007 season now- it's great. Here's my advice:

-Bevel the surfaces for 3D. It won't hurt a thing and not doing it will make it more difficult to sell...

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

If you use the urethane glue on the leading and trailing edges just be sure to have them secured- the expansion of the glue might cause some problems.

RE: 2 for one - Carden 40% Extra 300 Build

Hey Kelly- looking great- sorry I didn't get over there. I saw that you had the servo bays marked out so I figured you were good. You are doing a great job.
