That's not a gap but the reflection of the flames at the rear. For a split second I thought the same thing. I also would suspect an internal leak/broken needle and the kero plug solenoid sticking...

My T-1 has pulled 9 Gs but routinely pulls over 8 Gs with no signs of stress. I don't think I fly it excessively hard but not gentle with it either.
