RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?

YOu'll have to cut them a bit to clear the rudder horns.

Also, someone mentioned the tube was sloppy. YOu can use a little ultracote at the center and ends to tighten them up.

RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?

The canopy was painted siver by a freind.

Turning a 22X8 MSC with a bison muffler 7K. Purs at low idle all day long.

CG was perfect. Inverted flight required minimal elevator input. :D

Maiden Flight was great!!! Balance was setup very. Did nice knife edged without coupling. Lands like a ***** cat. Didn’t do too much 3D for the first flight.

RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?

NO Way!

What caused the flutter? Did you use the CA hinges, or points? Where they sealed off?

That is no good![:@]

BossHoss,

Can you post some picks of your rudder tray, and pull-pull install? :D

I think we may be glueing and Ultracoating the seem of the canopy. A lot of ground to cover yet here too.

RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?

KMP = ~400
EF = ~650

Of course KMP would disclose "not manufactured by KMP". Who, by name, is the factory that built the KMP ARF? At this point.. Who cares?? Many of the ARF companies don’t...

RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?

1. He had to locate the center of firewall, measure/mark where the engine would mount. Then added offset to compensate for built in right thrust. To mount the engine, he took the carb/reed valve off...

RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?

I'm guessing it will be ~16-17 lbs. I told him to get the scales out, and more importantly, GET IT FINISHED and GO FLY IT! :D

The manual did give some very high level instructions on engine...

RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?

Interesting :eek:

This is a bone stock unit, out-of-the-box.

I think this one may be a "newer vintage".

RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?

We didn't see a lot of hot glue.

Wings are built up balsa.

I agree that the belly stringers can be a pain especially in shipping to/from the field.

Notice the fiberglass wing tube...

RE: KMP 87" Yak-54 What do you Think?

There is a plethora of varying opinions being generated, that are not based on flight characteristics. I would like to see some posts of building and flying experiences of this airplane. A friend of...
