RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

Yes it did fly a few times but there is no video unfortunately.

It needed pretty much full power on the Kolibri to be comfortable. Whether this was due to the weight/drag, low power of the...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

This project is still going but hasn't flown yet. I couldn't get the engine to run properly but I have eventually found time to strip the model down and bench run it.

Now all is working as it...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

All complete:D

It is now ready for the maiden. That might not be for a couple of weeks but I'll post details when it's done.

It needed a bit of noseweight so ended up being 1.92 Kg (4.25...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

Nearly there:D

The install is complete and there is just a bit of tidying of servo leads, trim to add and minor tweaks to finish off. The weight has come out at 3.9lbs dry which is a bit heavier...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

Desperately hoping to have it ready for Sunday but it's the little bits at the end that seem to take forever. Also have a Habu on the way that I hope to have ready. If I've got these to fly then I'll...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

The install is continuing but it is very tight[X(]

I've moved the manual shut-off valve back and will be putting the filter in front of the engine to remove these items from the canopy area.

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

The wings are now covered and the fuselage is almost complete. As you can see, I have cut a hatch on the top for access to the electronics. The nose gear takes up a lot of room so there isn't much...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

Photo of the underside showing how well the Kolibri fits. The 16oz Dubro tank fits perfectly as well, right over the c.g.

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

Still a bit to do but progress is continuing. The wing is pretty much done. The fuselage needs a bit of strengthening but is nearly there.

I have cut a large canopy hatch to make accessing the...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

Slow but steady progress. Bottom of wing is now sheeting and cut out for servos and gear. The flaps have been glued in place. A little bit of filling/sanding and the wing will be ready to cover:D

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

I now have the gear and it fits:D

The gear itself is tiny and 1 3/4 inch wheels just fit without modification. I am really looking forward to the electric retracts and not having to worry about...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

The wing top surface has been sheeted and flaps and ailerons have been completed. The flaps will be fixed.

Now I have to wait for the gear before I can close up the bottom of the wing.

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

Here is the latest progress.

The basic wing structure is done. The biggest problem I came across is that the 'ply' dihedral brace is quite weak if flexed fore/aft (not something that should...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

Here is the fuselage so far and it is coming along nicely. I haven't done any reinforcement yet but have a couple of places I want to beef up. In the main the fuselage has come out pretty strong and...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

The fuselage is coming along nicely and I will post pics soon.

I have come across another small issue. It looks like the design of the fan mounting has been changed at some point. The enclosed...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

I have finally finished assembling the fuselage jig. It is now set up ready to glue the fuselage but the back former is way too small. Have I made a mistake or is F-8 too small?

How should it...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

Fin complete.

The only changes I have made here is to add a 1/8 x 1/8 spruce strip behind the LE and to use 1/2 wide balsa at the LE of the rudder and TE of the fin to provide more glueing area...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

Tailplane done.

The plans call for a bass 'spar' at the trailing edge. I have used balsa instead and inset a 1/8 x 1/2 spruce spar further forward. I have also added a couple of 1/8 x 1/8 spruce...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

There has been a little delay as I suddenly realised it's been so long since I built a kit that I didn't have a building board!!

There is not much to show but I will highlight where I have...

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

I was going to give Schreiner the benefit of the doubt after other's experiences and was tempted to take a chance with the 'All-In' but they haven't even replied to my email. In the same time, Laser...

I'm very glad I have gone for the Sport E having seen the engine. I think it deserves a proper airframe and I wouldn't feel right putting it in a...

Can you give me an idea on what servos I might need so I can start getting some bits together?

Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri

As if I haven't got enough projects on the go at the moment I have ordered a Jetmach Sport E and am going to have a look at installing a Kolibri into it.

Whilst I await the kit to be delivered,...
