The Multiplex Easy Star has long been a favorite plane for me to recommend. However you can't find them anymore.

ELECTRIC PARK/GLIDERS

Have you considered an electric glider? Usually larger than the typical
parkflyer, they also tend to be quite stable and fly a bit slower, which
makes them easy to fly....

Computer radios are now so inexpensive...
