Questions about Carpet tracks

I am planning on building a carpet track to run on in my dads garage and i was wondering what kind of carpet they used on rc tracks. do they use a specific kind or is it just any thin style carpet?...

some gps units can measure speed, if you have one of those you could strap it to your car and see how fast it goes.

I have never had any problems with mine except for one where i drove into a light pole going full speed and broke the front right arm, its okay because it was 100% my fault.

i would say on-road due to the massive amounts of time that goes into tuning the car. I drive off road but i got respect for both forms of racing.
