It seems i was being overly Pessimistic....With 3 9/16" Leg length to play with (pivot to wheel outer radius)

Thanks very much for all your help and taking the time to write.
I set the ESC back to Auto and using the programming box selected "Exponential" rather than "Linear" for the throttle curve....
