Some of my old planes:

A 1/3rd scale Piper Cub (12 foot wingspan - my neighbor built it and called it a "J2 and a half"). It was built as a free-flight, uses wooden yardsticks as wing spars, and...

A ground loop occurs when a plane is veering off course on the ground, and hard application of rudder is not sufficient to straighten out the yaw path across the ground. The plane basically spins...

RE: Giant Telemaster Build

The lifting stab helps compensate for changes in power by not requiring re-trimming of the elevator. This does not mean that the plane will not drop the nose at lowered power settings, but it does...

RE: Hardened screw holes

I think it's important to make sure your mounting block or plate is thick enough to get a good amount of threads in contact with the mounting screws. Also, one needs to be careful not to destroy...

RE: Two possible building tables - neither is straight!

I have often wondered how expensive and/or difficult it would be to have a rectangular piece of granite or slate ground to a flat surface, similar to the flat reference surface blocks used in a...

RE: So... what did Santa bring?

I was fortunate enough to get another Christmas with both of my aging parents, enjoy the holiday with my wife and daughter, and receive a bunch of cool stuff. The "stuff" included a "departure" from...

RE: Kits. . . How many is too many?

Last count on kits was over 50, plus another 16 or so in various states of construction / de-construction.
Buy them while you can get them . . . way too many kits are no longer available (I have a...

RE: Plans Transfer to Wood

You can also make templates easily from a plastic template material called "See-Temp".
Link: www.seetemp.com (note: page is a bit slow to load)
Just lay it over your plans or parts, trace around...

RE: How big does a plane have to be to be considered "Giant Scale"?

You got a good point there . . . I don't know where the giant scale "line" will be drawn, and perhaps if there even should be a "line" at all. I suppose it's just the nature of humans in general to...

RE: How big does a plane have to be to be considered "Giant Scale"?

In response to Volfy . . .

I think you have a valid idea . . . 1/4 scale AND 80" wingspan . . . for many of the models out there, but for planes such as our 1/10th scale Constellation (which...

RE: I am looking for plans for an out of Production Plane Where do I go?

You could also post an ad here on RCU for "Plans-Wanted".
It has worked for me in the past when seeking plans for an out-of-production model.

RE: HARD ACCELERATION makes my tire balloon!

Hi guys,

Same thing happens to full-size drag racers when taking off. Just the laws of physics at work, and I don't think it will hurt anything.
Smetimes the tire will pull away from the rim...

RE: USAF Thunderbirds episode on Nova-Public television

LOL! That must have been great! I guess they'll have to give old Morley a lesson in on-line grammar usage, and make him bring in a note from his mother.
PBS is a great channel, especially when you...

RE: USAF Thunderbirds episode on Nova-Public television

Thanks zxcv11 for the info! Don't know why, but I never found those links when I searched. I did check out the cost afterwards and at $ 29.95 I think it's a just bit steep for a program which aired...

My nickname is related to my old flying site. We had nesting eagles nearby, and nearly every morning and evening they would soar over the flying field, hunting for mice or rabbits. I got in the habit...

RE: X-Acto - FOUND

I do think that X-acto should consider making some more of these deluxe sets, since many of today's modelers will equip their shops with a lot of specialty tools. In addition, the older wooden cases...

Well, I am not too sure about there being a jointer in the kit, as I am not aware of there being such a tool supplied in an X-acto set.
There is a small block plane included, plus another tool also...

I was lucky enough to be contacted by a couple of people, each of which had old X-acto sets, and I purchased one of each type.
In both cases they were about 95% complete, and it was...
