RE: Old airtronics receiver question

The 92985 is the older 512PCM Rx. It should work with your RD800 if you use the PCM1 setting. If not try PCM2. One or the other should work. Use regular Airtronics dual conversion crystals in...

RE: Supertiger Muffler

That crazy ST "dustbin" muffler has always been a sore spot on an otherwise excellent engine. I like to search the swapmeets for older teardrop shaped ST mufflers that slide onto the same exhaust...

RE: tuning problems on old ST 61series x rear exh.

Your pipe length is simply too short for the prop size you are running. Either go down in prop size or lengthen your pipe. This engine was designed to spin an 11x7 prop fairly fast as it was...

RE: OS MAX RF 61 Burned

OS stopped producing this engine several years ago. Too bad, because I think this engine is one of the finest engines OS ever produced. It really worked well with it's long stroke and rear exhaust...

RE: thread size for glow plugs?..o.s 91 surpass

The heli-coils used to repair stripped threads are MUCH cheaper. I repair stripped glow plug threads for $10.

RE: Tuned pipes....... who has theoretical or practical guidance in this area.

Preivers, I didn't say one should buy ALL of TSR's software ;)

But if you do purchase any of it you will discover that it is a lot easier to use than what Gordon Blair initially published. Tom...

RE: CAR engine in a PLANE

With the right prop and pipe an R/C car motor could work but you first have to work out the prop drive washer problem. Most hi-performance car engines have a pilot shaft crankshaft without a drive...

RE: OS.max puzzle

That's right, later versions of the VF series were nickel plated.

RE: Tuned pipes....... who has theoretical or practical guidance in this area.

Gordon Blair's software is rather old and clunky - it was written back when Win 3.1 was the operating system of choice. TSR Racing ( http://www.tsrsoftware.com/index_2.html ) sells much better...

RE: Tuned pipes....... who has theoretical or practical guidance in this area.

Another great book can be bought from the SAE. It was written by Gordon Blair and is titled The Design and Simulation of Two-Stroke Engines. This book is the definitive text on how to design...

RE: OS.max puzzle

The biggest difference betweeen the two is the VF is rear exhaust which means that it will be mounted different on the plane. If you have a tuned pipe on hand then the VF will give you great...

RE: RCM November 1988 ?

I have it. It's two pages long. What format do you want it in? Scanned in pages generally make for large files and slow downloads with dial-up internet.

RE: OS .46AX vs. Evo .46

Try running an 11x7 prop on your ST 51 and see what happens. The ST51 has a longer stroke than the OS46 so it's peak power will be at a lower RPM. Stroke length and port timing have a very...

RE: MY TT 46 died on me i need a new engine for speed

The TT .46 is a good engine for the money. So is the Supertigre GS45. And it has true chrome plating on the cylinder bore. I've modified a few of them and they perform very well. You can open up...

RE: OS .46AX vs. Evo .46

A few years ago I compared the OS 46FX and the TT 46 Pro back to back with stock and Tower mufflers. With the 11x6 prop and Tower muffler the OS outperformed the TT by better than 1000rpm. Judging...

RE: OS change to Nickel Plating instead of Chrome?

Those Japanese companies are slick - and so is Great Planes importing/distributing. ABC did not mean Aluminum, Brass, Chrome to them. It meant Aluminum Brass Composite. But this is all water under...

RE: OS change to Nickel Plating instead of Chrome?

I have seen peeled nickel in OS's FSR series, VF series, SF series, and FX series. I have also seen peeled nickel in a YS 1.20. All of these engines were "used and abused", two of them by myself. ...

RE: OS change to Nickel Plating instead of Chrome?

Chrome is not prohibited, just regulated very closely. This adds costs to the manufacturing process that electroless nickel doesn't. Cheap and easy could describe electroless nickel. You or I...

RE: OS change to Nickel Plating instead of Chrome?

Has anyone had a new OS 46AX peel on them yet? Mine hasn't, but it is still fairly new. I look forward to flying this engine more and more.

RE: Ringed motor question...

Some engines have them and some don't. It all depends on how wide the ports are in relation to the cylinder bore. The ringed OS engines have a "bridge" across their exhaust ports and don't have any...
