RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

Hey Chumley, Your not related to that "Chumley" on Pawn Stars on the history channel, are you? ;)

I sold Mike D. this business some time back and I hate to see it in this state. He should...

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

Yes, get someone to launch it for you until you are comfortable with the aircraft. There are a couple of videos on the web site link in my signature showing a launch. I would still try a 9x7.

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

Your initial flight report didn't indicate there were any issues. Have you changed something? What prop are you using on your 46 FX (9x7 is good). All my Diamond Dust and Screamin Demons have a...

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

Tell me about the wind. You may need to give a little harder push with a 7" prop.

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

I would use the Jett or nelson tuned muffler for best results. The cheap tower muffler helps some. I wouldn't go to the trouble of a whole tuned pipe system. The black one piece muffler from Macs...

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

Nice job on the nose! Now all you need is a tuned muffler and it will come alive.

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

I was thinking you might have been using a 7" or something. 9" or bigger is plenty of prop diameter.

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

I have flown my deltas weighing up to 3 lbs empty with out problem. Torquing to the lift is not uncommon for any delta launched at high power. The two hand launches shown in the videos on my site...

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

I wouldn't try to take the fins off to recover it. I suspect that would create a lot more work then it saved. I have covered one with the fins on and it wasn't that bad with a small iron.

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

The 8x8 seems like a light load for a YS 45. Maybe a 8x9 thru 8.5x10 could be tried.
Your 130 was up wind but it looked like the wind was pretty light.

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

I had trouble getting clean lines. Maybe because of the background music. Looked like it was moving pretty good though.

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

Glad you had a good maiden. The TT 46 has more then enough power but the 60LX will be the ultimate. [X(]

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

Troy,
Thanks for the great video. I am impressed with your build and covering job. It was moving along quite well considering not having the engine dialed in yet. I was getting from 115 to 145...

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

Too small of a diameter prop can be as bad as too large of a diameter. The airframe and engine/motor needs to be considered. With a glow engine your delta would not need more then 9". Your setup...

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

Denny,
Glad you finally got it in the air. Yep, at speed you need very low rates and a lot of expo. Actually, after a few flights the pucker factor will diminish and it will be a blast to fly. I...

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

Justin built this mini scratch build from my plans. Not aware of any full size electric Demon's in the air yet.

"It is constructed out of 2mm Depron foam. I test flew it today, and even with a...

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

Post 439 said no expo on the radio. My first maiden on a Demon had the expo set positive rather then negative. It was a handful.

Troy,
Looking good. The vertical fins look small but I...

RE: (Something Fast?) Delta Build Thread

Congratulations on a successful maiden. I am sure the speed will impress you when you open it up.

My first delta (a Dust) did not have expo and it was a handful at first but after a few flights...
