dag46,
I am just putting the finishing touches on my Carden 300s with a Sachs 4.2.
My instruction manual says:

"The center of gravity indicated on the Plans is 6 3/8" back from the Leading...

Walbro SDC 80 Carb questions

I have a Walbro SDC 80 on a Sachs 4.2 that I bought used about 6 months ago. When I tried to start it the best I could get was a weak idle. Also, as soon as the engine would die, I would lose prime...

Does anyone know what the spark plug gap should be for this engine?
It has a NGK BMR6A spark plug.
Thanks.

RE: Top flite Cessna 182 Servo location

Oemfod,
I'm not sure if you can use balsa filler now or not, since you have already glassed it. Maybe you can use some form of "bondo". I have a friend who owns a autobody shop and is also into...

RE: Sachs 4.2 engine

Hello, Denny.
That is a tempting offer. However, as strange as it may seem, I am enjoying "tinkering" with the one I have.
I bought an ignition from C and H and I have fire to the plug now!!!!

RE: Top flite Cessna 182 Servo location

Oemfod,
You are correct that the dorsal fin should blend smoothly and look as though it is one piece when joined with the fin!
I went out to our local airport (just a few blocks away) and looked...

I don't like the way it looks either.
What muffler would you use?
Thanks.

RE: Sachs 4.2 engine

Thanks everyone!
I noticed that the sales ticket says Dolmer Sachs on it.
Also, the carb is a Walbro.
The crank case appears to be painted black. Underneath is orange.
I am all for working...

RE: Sachs 4.2 engine

Thanks for your reply!
Again, I am new to gas - this is my first "big plane".
A friend tells me that he thinks it needs a new choke and ignition module. He said it appears to be electronic...

Sachs 4.2 engine

Help!
I am new to gasoline engines. I just got a Sachs 4.2 (I think) at an auction. I would like to send it in to have it gone over and have minor repairs made. The problem is I can't find who...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build

For anyone who wants to cut down on time spent sanding, I discovered a great idea! I used my 5" random orbit sander with 220 grit sand paper.
At first I thought it might be to harsh or overkill on...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 Skylane Build

Hey Dan,
Just curious - why have you not put the shear webs in between ribs 8 - 14 of the outer wing panels?
Russell.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build

Wing panels joined together.
This has got to be the best, straightest wing I have ever built! I STRONGLY recommend the Great Plains Pro building board. It is well worth the money.
I used to use...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build

Robbie,
That looks great!
Have you built the wing yet? Or did you do like I did and start the fuse first?
I have 4 days off so I hope to start the wing today or tomorrow.
Russell.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build

One more idea, Robbie, for what it's worth,
If you do like you are thinking, with the 7mm and 20mm standoffs and 1/4" ply...
Epoxy a layer of 1/16 ply to the 1/4" ply and that should get you very...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build

Robbie,
The 45mm standoffs I got are threaded on both ends, either 10-28 or 10-32 threads (I can't remember which) and came with 4 bolts 3/4" long. The 7mm standoffs are hollow and came with a...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build

Glad to help, Robbie.
If you are using the Saito 100 twin like I am you will find that it just barely fits the firewall top to bottom.
The mounting bolts have to come from the inside to mount the...
