RE: Nieuport 17 update... Almost done! Lots of pics.

dogisland,

To tell the truth, wide open space IS available at the Muroc Model Masters, which is a dry lakebed. I am no longer a member there, since I got tired of seeing long time members...

Oh yeah, the carbon fiber tube axle was a bust, literally! It has since been replaced with piano wire.

RE: Please check your Email...

Hi Dave,

Sent you an e-mail!

The plane is "mothballed" at this point, but all it needs is a battery charge and some fuel. Oh, and a nice wide open place to fly. Even with the steerable...

RE: <span class=

Heavy? Probably not, but I have no scale to weigh it. After the first few flights with the FX .91, I shelved that troublesome engine and put in a Saito 100. Still flying great to this day, and...

Model Tech Excite 90

If you do a search, you'll find many people have problems with their FX 91s. It's just one of those things, well, one of those engines.

Model Tech Excite 90

I had an OS FX .91 in mine when it started life, but I had so much trouble with that engine (outlined elsewhere) that I bought the Saito.

It IS a great, stable flier, and I'm getting it dialed in...

Hobbico Torqmaster 90. Is it REALLY only good for up to .90 engines?

Do you mean that the starter cone is tearing up the plastic spinner by causing a melted ring? If that's the case, you'll either have to live with it, or get an aluminum spinner.

Flite-Metal Substitute

I have some 3" aluminum tape from Avery-Denneson that is .004". I have used it over solid balsa and hardwood parts to simulate aluminum with great success. I would imagine that it is available in...

SIG Rascal 40 Problem

Mine broke as well with an FX .46... No 4 stroke vibration there. Since I collect a lot of scrap aircraft grade sheet aluminum from the aircraft facility where I work, I built new mounts.

They...

Re: Engines

Excellent! I'll send you my OS FX 91 paperweight. I'm sure you'll have better luck than I. Just don't send me a bill for the aftermarket parts you'll need to make it run well, k?

Oh wait......

Lets take a poll on the FX 91

Almost 50% are problem engines. It almost sounds like OS pulled a fast one and had Magnum build the FX .91!

I can't remember EVER having an OS engine that didn't run well either.

Lets take a poll on the FX 91

10 needed work, and 12 didn't from what I gather at this point.

Lets take a poll on the FX 91

Looks like 10 so far that didn't run well out of the box. (no modifications)

I wonder if OS is listening.

Lets take a poll on the FX 91

The poll does not really give an accurate representation of how many are/were problem engines. Perhaps it would have been better to ask how many didn't take work to make them run correctly.

Mine...

O.S. 91 FX Problems??????

You might be right Blackie... It may be far fetched, but mine seemed to increase the bubbling rate when the needle got to operating temperature. There might just be several related problems with the...

O.S. 91 FX Problems??????

It is my opinion that the needle assembly gets too hot, and causes whatever dissolved gasses there are in the fuel to expand when entering the needle valve. Too much heat generated by the .91 for...

O.S. 91 FX Problems??????

Great... Another "you guys don't know what you're doing" post regarding the crappy FX 91 engines that many of us seem to have acquired.

I'm glad that your FX 91 runs fine with the stock muffler...

Reverse Rotation on SAITOs OS's ???

The only reason Enya engines can be reversed is because they have twin cams... One intake and one exhaust, which allows the timing for EACH valve to be adjusted individually. On engines like Saito...

Excite 90 Arf

Hooked,

I'm quite pleased with the Saito 100 in the plane. Very reliable and plenty of power.

The only thing I don't like about the plane is the covering. I don't know what it is, but it sure...

Engines to stay away from

Oh man! I knew that would happen! Too bad you had to be primed with *that* movie though.

Sorry SP... Maybe the first paragraph explains it? It's been a long day.
