Ok so my TL-01 has come out of the attic and after many many years im thinking of getting back in to the cars

I have just ordered a new Esc and 17x2 motor but im struggling to find the right info i need on gears and pinions


What i would like to ask is this

* Do i need to upgrade the standard pinion that is on the 540 motor or just transfer it over?
* I understand there are only 3 pinion options on this chassis but what will work best on my 17x2 motor?
* Do the standard gears need changing at all?
*If i need to purchase a new pinion which size (not teeth amount) do i need? are they 0.6?

I also have a 12 turn motor, if this will go in on any of the 3 pinion sizes that would be great and i would use that instead of the 17x2 but again im unsure

only other mods are full ballrace kit which is fitted already

What size bodies fit the chassis btw?

any 190mm bodys will fit, 200mm will fit also but are wider, so it looks like you got narrow rims on it.

I went as far as a 15x2t motor with an unlimited esc just using the stock pinion options, without any problems, but a friend had suggested at the time that we dremel out the motor mount holes so we could use any pinion and motor. I never tried it tho.

I know this thread is basiclly dead,but....does anybody know where I could find a couple either high speed or stock gear sets......had a 9t reedy touring car motor w/one way front diff and man was that thing faaassst! But my neighbor decided to plow it into a curb and it ate a couple teeth. I just want to bring them (had one for chassis parts) back to a tamiya sport motor and stock or speed gearing and just cruise them around for fun. I have modern stuff I can break the sound barrier with/plow into walls (hpi e10).

Pretty much the only place you're likely to find anything like that. TL01's are discontinued, and for quite a while.....There may be some transferrable parts from another model, but you'll have to make a study of that. Look up models that might still be around, at the same period the TL01 was around (most likely none, but it's worth a try), and find parts with the same number. For instance - the TA03 ball diff is a straight drop-in for the M05 diff, though Tamiya has never acknowledged it, and neither manual states it.

Tamiya has a maddening habit of just arbitrarily discontinuing models for no apparent reason. It's why I now purchase as much spare parts I think I will possibly need, as I can, for any Tamiya model I buy, just so I know I won't ever be out of parts if it ever does get discontinued.
