Default RCU's Instructor Locator

Has everyone noticed RCU's new instructor locator? It is located at the top of the page in the pull down menu under RC Community. This can be a valuable tool for those new to RC or getting into a new area of our hobby/sport.

There are only a few instructors listed so far. Hopefully the list will quickly grow. Take a look, and if you are an instructor, consider listing yourself.

I signed up.

Is there a delay after you sign up? I hit submit, but didn't see my listing?

very nice feature! One question. I am not a trainer, but dont understand the "Certified" part. There is a certification to become a trainer?

My guess is that the certified question pertains to the AMA introductory pilot program.

The AMA allows each chartered club to have up to three introductory pilots each year. The application is listed as Document 906 on the AMA website.

Hi Guys,

To answer some questions:

[ul][*] No, there is no delay. If your submission wen through, you should be able to search for your listing. If it is not there, give it another go. [*] The certification part allows guys who do have certifications from different organizations to indicate that. [*] After you create your listing (possibly during, I can't remember and I built the damn thing!), you can associate yourself with one or more flying fields, tracks etc. so that a person search for a place to go will see YOUR name as one the instructors who teaches there. If you don't see your venue, you can add it if you'd like. Just make sure you know enough detail to make the listing useful. Usually, this would be the club pres...etc.
[/ul]

Hope that helps!

I'm all set up - thanks. I put our club in the venues too. This should be helpful for those that travel and can take a plane. Heheee, wish that was the case for me!

What is the certification?

I am a AMA Intro Pilot. Is that what the certification is?

Thanks for signing up Dave, and to all the others that have listed. I also think this is a great feature.

They're working on it, but havent heard anything since yesterday. I'm sure there are lots more important bugs to work on.

That would be a great idea. It would good for people who are beginners and want to look for a good RC instructor in their area.

If you were having trouble adding yourself, give it a try now. I'm not sure what is going on because we can't duplicate the issue. I took a shot in the dark. Please let me know with a post.

Still unable to add myself to the list. When I hit the submit button it takes me to the last instructor listed, but my name is not added.

Successfully added my name to the list this morning. I used my computer at work, so don't know if it was a bug that was fixed or something with my home computer.

You only have to be an AMA "Certified" instructor to teach someone who is not already an AMA member. I am an instructor at our club and we require everyone to be club/AMA members in order to participate in our training program.
