I'm looking to add the next step to my flying and go for flying at night. I know there's lights out there for RC planes, where are the best places to get these lights? I am trying to go for a scale look, I'm most interested in adding a couple of flashing white or read strobe navigational beacons or one of those red beacons you see on the tail of small airplanes that seem to dimmer in and out of brightness and dimness unless their actually rotating. I want super bright LED's, a head landing light for sure, maybe even landing lights on the wings. I want that green light LED on right wing tip, and red on the left tip. I want to be able to see them in daylight as well. Where can I find ALL of these kinds of lights?
How do you install and control the function of the lights? What power source do they operate on? I have a spare digital switch channel to use on my radio that could be used for the lights. I am just trying to figure out how I would install the lights and wiring system. The ones on the wing tips and tail beacon would be especially difficult because I would have to cut into the wing and tail and somehow feed wires through the frame to the power source. I would probably operate just the landing lights on a switch servo and the navigational lights, beacons and strobes on a switch that I turn on that is just on my plane. Does anybody know how about I do all this?

Look in the Micro Mark catalog or any other such as Walthers, Bachmann, Tower etc for Model Railroad supplies. They have grain of wheat, GOW, bulbs in various wattages. You could use a 9V battery as in some flashlights for power. I've read of other flyers who just install the lights inside the wings and tail surfaces. If you have enough GOW bulbs you could light the whole aircraft However it would prbably be better to just light the wings and empennage for better directional orientation. Transparent covering is almost a necessity.

There was a very favorable and in depth review of the glow wire product in RC Report a few months ago. It looked really neat. Had some great night flying tips too.

The answer is GLOW WIRE. Head to http://www.glowire.com/ for this stuff. We use their BEC driver and 6 foot wing set on flying wings like ZAGI. On the Zagi we don't use their 9V connector but instead tie right to the 8 cell battery pack that the plane flies on. This setup works GREAT and the night flying is fun.
