Default Inconsistency on Fuel Ports on Composite Air Traps

Today I got my 4th Composite Air Trap and I was going to use it in a TWIN engine plane so I wanted to make sure everything is the same, however, looking at the ports on the composite air traps, it seems every couple of months they change the port or it is very inconsistent.

What is the deal here?

The difference between the first and third trap is almost double the inlet?

That would be annoying.

The port size has changed slightly over time, initially when we designed the CAT we sourced a manufacturer (in the USA) who made a good barb product, only issue was the bore was not large enough for the requirements we wanted in terms of flow. The fix was to re-drill these barbs out to the size we required.

Naturally this is a process which is not best use of time/resource so recently we have purchased a CNC lathe and are manufacturing our own barbs which we can make to our own specs and change them as required.

I understand your concerns but the bore size (smallest you have) is designed to work 100% efficiently with turbine sizes it is designed for.

However I am happy to ship you two CAT's with the same size bore in the barb FOC for your project to ensure you are totally happy - just PM me your details.

Nice offer! I've been using Marcs products for quite some time now and they've always been up to spec and worked perfectly.

The OCD in me would probably want two identical CAT in a twin engine install... CDO ahhh now that's better!

Looks to be the natural evolution of a great product that started out near perfect and has only gotten better. And now look at his offer? I would guess that you didn't call or email Marc first before posting the thread? Strange behavior I say!

Stereotypical Marc S response. Just like his products his customer service is top notch. Everyone of my new jets for the past two years has had a CAT fitted and thats something I plan to continue. I have had nothing but fault free service from product and supplier.
Regards Al

Marc will do, My main concern is that I have a twin turbine setup so I want to match everything in the fuel / plumbing area. I am working with 2x 170 (really 165N) turbines. These are the medium traps. I have a large 260ML on a 180, works really nice.

Changes over time to improve the product are always great. And Marc's CAT's are the best! In a twin I can understand wanting the fuel systems to be identical. Marc of course is in place with the finest service in the industry with an incredible offer. Just doesn't get any better than that.

It's good to see Marc stepping in and supporting his customers. I have 7 CAT traps and they've all worked well. Because of Marcs customer service I will continue to buy them for all my projects. Too bad Marc doesn't make airframes. His craftsmanship + customer service is needed in this segment of the hobby.
