Mark,
I went down in August........the only hobby shop that I found was pretty lame.......and the field was about 20 miles away....the hobby shop has a map to the field.....I can't think of the name of the shop, but it was in the phone book......I didn't get a chance to head out to the field while I was there.

HEY MARK, MYRTLE IS WHERE I LEARNED TO FLY RC 22 YEARS AGO. WE FLEW OFF A GRASS RUNWAY THAT WAS 1000 FT. LONG. IT WAS LOCATED AT 21ST. AVE OFF BYPASS 17. FROM THE BACK GATE OF WHAT WAS THEN MBAFB. THE BASE WAS CLOSED IN 1991 AND I'M TOLD THE CLUB MOVED TO CONWAY S.C. ABOUT TWENTY MILES AWAY. THE HOBBY SHOP I WENT TO WAS CALLED ED'S HOBBY SHOP. I HAVENT BEEN TO M/B IN 15 YEARS. DONT KNOW IF ED'S STILL IN BUSINESS OR NOT. IT WAS A GREAT FIELD OTHER THAN THE POO-POO POND NEAR THE END OF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FIELD. I'M SURE I WOULD'NT KNOW ANY OF THE MEMBERS NOW, OR EVEN IF THEY ARE STILL CALLED THE LONG BAY MODELERS. HAVE A GREAT TIME AT M/B. I PROBABLY WOULD'NT EVEN RECOGNIZE M/B NOW. MY LOCAL HANGOUTS ARE PROBABLY ALL GONE NOW. WE DID SPEND ALOT OF DRUNKIN NIGHTS SHARK FISHING ON SPRINGMAID FISHING PEIR, BUT I'LL BET THATS EVEN GONE NOW. ANYWAY, ENOUGH STROLLING WAY DOWN MEMORY LANE. HAVE A GREAT TIME IN M/B!!

Ed's Hobby Shop
If you are coming in on 501, it is at the intersection of 501 and U.S. 17 Business (Kings Highway).
I was in Myrtle Beach in July, went there to look at what Ed's had to offer..... he was closed because some lady fell asleep and drove into the side of his building. Needless to say I didn't get to see what he had.

I guess she really didn't understand that he didn't provide drive through service.
I will have to check out his store.

There is no field in M. Beach. It is in Conway. The old field now accomadates Broadway at the Beach on 21st Ave. Ed's is still open,,,,I HAVE to go in there every time I go to Myrtle ( 3-4 times a year ) but I leave a bit "fretted" , the shop does not stock a lot because most of Myrtle is just for tourists and not a lot inventory is needed. However the guys there are super nice !
