When logging into the Forum this morning, I cannot help not to think about how "offended" a guy was about the Brisson girl a few months back and all the talk about her. Why? Because on the first page of the Forums, for Skyshark RC (BTW is a great company) is Miss Fantasy.

Did anybody notice the plane? How about a 1-900 number?

What if the girl was replaced with a muscular man in a speedo two sizes too small?

I don't think companies need half-naked people to sell planes and I think it says something about any company that does this. Instead of enticing me to purchase from Skyshark R/C, I'm put off by their ad.

Interesting, the old addage, that sex sells...

And this in an industry / hobby populated by old men, most of whom have been married for more years than most of these 'models' have been alive.... they should ask.. do we care?

No, I think it's gerared towards the younger crowd...

We should talk about the avatars some members have...

Well, I clicked on it. More than once. That's more than I can say about any other ad running here.

Any smart advertising firm knows one simple rule (like it or not). Sex sells. The picture of the girl is nothing different than you would see on daytime or primetime television. Actually a bit tamer.

I've learned that no matter what you do when you address the masses that some will love it, some will hate it and some won't care either way. But no matter how you slice it advertisers know that sex has and always will sell. Pickup a copy of RC Car action and there are literally topless girls covering themselves up with ONLY their hands, girls in bikinis and more. They don't do it to offend. They do it simply because it works.

Our rules at RCU for language/content follow the guidelines for what you can see on network tv. Basically I know that if my 5 year old son can see it in the middle of the day on any network tv station it is probably acceptable for RCU which is meant to be family friendly.

Further proof the ad works...it just created this thread which is more promotion!

I guess that will offset one of the customers they will be getting...ME! I've been considering one of there Avengers for a while, I think I will be ordering one just to help their sales.

Frankly, I think it's great to see companies that aren't intimidated by the PC crowd.

If I was looking for an aircraft of that type, I'd buy from them just to show support for them not being intimidated by the over-the-top PC crowd who would perhaps rather see the woman clad in a burkha....

Marc, I see your point, anybody in marketing knows that you address your market to what appeals to their biological senses. Us RC folk just love to make mountains out of molehills and get all wired up about little things. Since RC is male dominated, it only makes sense to use females in the ads since, biologicaly, males are attracted. Also, since most of the older generation is dying off, RC advertisers are seeking the "twenty something" to sell these high performance, fast, 3D airplanes to. Cute kids are another draw when advertising to both sexes. Nobody can resist looking at a cute baby whether he is sitting next to a bottle of Gerbers or an Extra 300.

BTW, just to be funny, Marc, if RCU has the same guidlines as primetime television, then I should be able to talk like people on Jerry Springer. However, some of those words would be "edited by moderator". I think you keep RCU many levels above television. Even Disney has used the word Damn and Jackass.

Are you saying this site is using day time and prime time TV as a example of the moral values that should be viewed on this family site. Queer men & women scantly clothed jumping each others bones at the drop of a hat, drugs, murder, this is day time and prime time TV the last time I had ocasion to watch. Now I like lookin at a good looking woman as much as the next guy, but I thought this was a RC site, not Hooters.

Geez, some of you need to get a life. If a girl holding a plane or posing with it offends you, then are you offended when you walk down the street and see a girl in a skirt, or at a pool, are you offended?

If putting a girl or guy in the ad offends you enough to not buy a product, how do you get by in life. Just about every product made has used a model at one time or another.

Boy I shure don't understand fellers that get upset at the sight of hot women advertising model products.

Perhaps manufacturers could do ads that include martha Burke and the womyn of NOW.

I think you fellers just got upset cuz someone might of popped a chubber and youins is embarassed cuz you tend to better identify with the queer eye and metrosexual crowd.

I say bring on the big chested half nekkid women!!

I agree. But I turned off the avatars a long time ago.

On the issue of the ad, personally I'm only offended enough to keep my money in my pocket. I figure the company is essentially deceitful, promising sex, but only selling airplanes (like the beer companies). I did click on the ad to see if there were any more good pictures, but not to look at airplanes. I prefer not to deal with deceitful companies.

If I were more offended, I'd send a letter to the company (on paper), letting them know that in my opinion, they stepped over the line. They might ignore it, but that would tell me something about them as well.

I remember when MAN and RCM had pretty women on the covers. Then prudent RCers started a campaign to get them off. Its hard to find those magazines at the newstand because they cannot compete with RC Car Action, Hot Rod, Mini Trucks, and all the other men's specialty magazines.

Why do you think?

I say, "BRING BACK THE BABES!"

I remember that too! I say we protest the dudes that protested them and remove the protesters! If they don't like it, they can sit in the living room with the shades pulled and the TV off and eat twinkies all day.

Deceitful?!?!?!

I don't see anything in the add about promising sex. I have never seen a beer company offer to sell sex.

I do however, see both companies using attractive models to pitch their products.

I suppose it is humurous to some, and to others it seems offensive and unwanted.

Whats next?

Flyboy, that last post was funny. Ding Dongs might be appropriate as well. BTW, I notice all the park flyer mags have pretty women in their ads and covers, and ironically, many girls and women are picking up that segment of the hobby.
P-51, I agree, there is no deceit in the ads. They are working in that they get that .03 second that is needed to aquire our attention. Using a warm color like bright yellow also is another part of the ad to catch the eye vs. if she was wearing dark blue.

If the girl was replaced with a cute baby or puppy, we would still find something about the product that would either make us be for it or against it.

If so many people are offended by sex, then why is their nothing but shows, movies, ads, and books about it?

If anyone thinks just because a beautiful model is used to help market a product, that it really means they are selling sex.... well they need help. The ad has done it's job by getting people to click on the ad and visit their web site or at least look at the ad. If it was just the plane, most everyone would have skimmed over it. So what if there is some eye candy with the ad.

(Steps up on Soapbox)

I Agree, the ad made me look twice, liked the look of the A/C, but it's still way off for my abilities. But the girl gave cause to pause.

I guess the folks who don't like this also don't watch Monday Night Football or any other sporting events that are "Family Oriented" (NASCAR, Olympics, etc) Because if memory serves correctly, Beer makers are some of the biggest sponsors and who do the bring up the most? "Those Twins!", Whatsup....,etc.

Sorry, that last R/C ad was TAME considering what else is out there...........(have you folks seen the latest Victoria's Secret commercial during the prime time network shows?!?). Hey, PC people, if you don't like it, turn the channel or surf on!

Thank You.........
