Default Changing Rx Freq.

Well I have been on here for hours catching up from my 2 year break in the hobby and I am about to go to bed but before I do I have a question I'm sure has been answered many times but I am to tired to look.

What is the official policy on changing Futaba RX channels? I know they are tuned and what not, but now that Futaba sells High Band and Low Band RX's, is it ok to switch channels as long as you stay in the respective bands? What are the band ranges? I assume 11-30 and 31-62?

I guess what I am getting at is, is it only ok to switch channels within the respective bands if the RX was sold as one of the new high band or low band RX's? Or can I switch my other RX's that came with my older (narrow band) radios without having them retuned to high or low band?

I guess I have never encountered this because I used to work at a hobby shop and I always bought aftermarket RX's. Now I have misc. Futaba RX's lying around and if I can swap a crystal without having to send it off and pay a bunch of money that would be great.

Thanks
Ryan

Lo band includes channels 11-35, Hi band includes channels 36-60.

Modern Futaba receivers are tuned for Hi or Lo bands, and you can change channels within the Hi or Lo areas without problems.

Older receivers were tuned to the exact channel they had when new, and would keep tuning to about 6 channels or so on either side of the original channel. Any more, and retuning was strongly recommended. If you want to use a Hi channel in a Lo receiver, or vice-versa, the receiver should be retuned to the new band, otherwise range problems may result.

Thanks

One last question: Is there a way to tell if a receiver has been tuned to a high or a low band or do you just have to know? Like if I were to buy a receiver used from a club member. Is there a marking on the newer ones?

Thanks
Ryan

You have to know the channel the receiver was sold with. Otherwise, there's no way to tell unless the "LO" label's still there. An extensive range check should also tell you.
