Wow, I had taken my nitro evader in to the hobby shop for a repair and tune up, little did i know i would have to be paying $71 for parts and labor! WOW $71, i dont have that kind of money seeing i am only 14 and dont have a job... phew. My evader is definately going to be sold right when i turn 16, cuz then i will be driving, and i think i will stick with electrics such as my E-Stampede. Lol, the gas tank was broken for like the third time, they had to take apart my engine and put in some new parts cuz the fuel wasnt going thorugh the engine.... geez, $71! AHHH... sorry i just had to post this because imo that price is ridiculous.
But atleast the evader finally runs.

Didnt you read the age limit?
For ages 18+ or 14+ for those with rich parents.
Seriously, unless you have a job i dont think anyone should own a nitro.

Did they charge you for an oil change and tire rotation?

my lhs is a skank. when i first bought my nitro i ran into problems with the engine, so i took it there. the owners wife was saying just to look at the engine it would be £14, which is like $20. thats without even doing anything to it. and the way she said it, ud think she was paying me! the owner himself told me to what i should do and that itd be good for me to learn. i never took it back there again, and persuaded myself to learn. doesnt seem that hard in hindsight, but certain lhs pray on the fact that ppl are too worried to mess around with their engines.

i am a decently knowledgeable newbie. I never been to my lhs for any troubleshooting problems [:@] However, this has done me some good. I've learned a lot about my car by taking it apart out of curiosity[sm=drowning.gif] If you are strapped of money like i am, take it easy on the hacking away of your ride.

hobbyshops are in the sales business, not repair... for example, lets say you buy a computer at any random local computer shop. you expect them to install new software, clean virii/spyware, and do general maintenance for free? nope...

I was alittle worried about wrecking something if I tried to wrench on some of the more expensive parts (engine mostly) until I asked what the $$ would be for anything to be fixed..Its almost cheaper to TRY fixing it, and if you cant..but a new one..lolIf you were going to be charged 100 bucks for parts and labour..Add another 30 bucks or so and you can have a brand new engine with one spare one that you can learn from. Only way to learn what you are doing with these, is trial and error...hopefully you will error less than I.. [:@]

I donty agree with your philosiphy of age requirements...I am 14 and hav worked for most of my stuff. Being we arnt a wealthy family and i have learned if i want it then i have to work for it. i have 3 jobs and get paid 120$ a week. I think im in the position to get in this hobby i dont agree with whoever said that. I dont ask my parents to buy the stuff. I only ask them to go to the LHS on their way home and in give them the money...I think your decision is not right!

I said 14.. because legally you can't hold a "real" job at 14. Don't come cryin to me saying my opinion is wrong cuz your WORKING UNDER THE TABLE!! *calls the FBI* lol.
My point was that the hobby is expensive, and unless you have a steady source of income, you shouldnt get into it because you'll just get frustrated!

Either that or you'll learn the value of money and hard work. This hobby is for anyone who has the time and patience to work on the vehicle. It really doesn't have to be very expensive.
Read as much as you can, hang out in the forums and leach knowledge. Pretty soon you'll be confident stripping down your car or troubleshooting problems. It's not rocket surgery. There's only so many places where a problem can hide. Hone your troubleshooting skills and you won't have a problem you can't find yourself or with a little advice from here.

Ah, Gerwen, truer words have never been spoken. As of now, I've completely torn down my HPI MT2 RTR and Traxxas Electric Rustler and observed everything. Trust me, a year ago, I could have been scared to move the body posts up.
Most of the knowledge I have received came from this forum, and I thank all of the members here for that.
It's great to know what's going on, and the best way to learn is to just give it a shot and see what you find. Remember, if you mess up, it isn't the complete end of the world. The only thing I have left is to rebuild an engine... And I have an old one laying around right now...
