Its got the horsepower to get you into trouble... its got the torque to get you out of trouble. What more can we say about the .18? Its solid, priced to sell thousands... STRONG!!!

No warrenty on the TZ and a 2 year warrenty on the 18CVR.
Bigest difference in the two are the power bands and the rpms.
TZ will make great power from middle to high in the power band and the 18CVR will give you massive lowend torque.
The TZ revs much higher than the 18CVR letting you do very little gear changes for best performance, while the 18CVR has so much torque and not as much rpm that you will have to pretty much revamp the way you gear your truck completely.
I don't have a TZ, but, just installed a 18CVR into my RC10GT. My gear ratio went from a 64/16 to 58/17 and I wanna try a 58/18 I just don't know if it will fit with enough lash. still with the new gear ratio my truck wheel stands quite frequently and that is with the slipper not yet fully cranked down and tops out pretty fast as well.
Racing, you will have to get the TZ, but, check your local track cause some tracks only allow so many ports. But, basically to be legal it will have to be a .12 sized engine. Unless they have Outlaw class!

Thunder is right the stocker is good. If that one gets tired, I would look at a OS .18CV-R. I have one in my MT2 and it is night and day to the .18SS. The OS has so much torque that it will frequently shear the center shaft of the spur gear on hard excelleration. Other than that the MT2 SS and an OS is a great match.

Grant, honestly, with $40 piston/sleeves, i'd probably buy an 18SS over an 18CVR despite the price difference if I were in the market for an .18.
that 18SS makes mad power, and i'd hang on to it unless you REALLY wanted more power.
